GRAND RAPIDS - Mich. – The Golden Eagles get back on the winning as they took both games of the DH with Indiana Tech on a cool and sunny afternoon. Cornerstone, which won 5-4 in the opener and 3-2 in the nightcap, is now 9-18 on the season and 3-5 in the WHAC. CU will be off tomorrow due to weather conditions and will pick up play on Wednesday as they play at crosstown foe Aquinas in a doubleheader.
Game Flow
Game 1 – Cornerstone got off to a great start scoring a run in the second off an RBI double from Joe Corsten (FR/Howell, Mich.) that scored Aaron Krupansky (FR/Hartland, Mich.). After the Warriors scored in their half of the third, CU got that run right back in the bottom half on a single from Zach Bohl (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.) and error from IT. The Warriors again tied it with a single run in the fifth but a big bottom of the fifth inning is what helped Cornerstone pull away.
A Levi Martin (FR/Vicenza, Italy) double scored the go ahead run and an Aaron Krupansky single brought around two more making the score 5-2. Tech was unable to complete the comeback as the relief-pitching duo of Justin Geerts (SR/Surrey, B.C.) and Ryan Harris (SR/Crystal Lake, Ill.) held off the Warriors in a 5-4 win.
Game 2 – A pitching duel was the story of game two as Indiana Tech scored first in the second inning with an RBI single by Glen McClain to give them the early 1-0 lead. CU got all of their offense in one inning with three runs that began with an RBI single by Jon Stewart (SO/Rockford, Mich.) to score runner Sean Masiakiewicz (SO/St. Louis, Mo.) and was followed by back-to-back sacrifice fly's giving Cornerstone the 3-1 lead.
Ben Sheckler (JR/Sparta, Mich.) pitched for the Golden Eagles and cruised all day long as he gave up just two runs throwing a complete game with three strikeouts in the seventh to get a 3-2 victory.
