GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No 12 ranked Davenport Panthers were too much for the Golden Eagles on Friday afternoon as they swept both games of the doubleheader. The losses drop Cornerstone to 6-10 on the year and 0-2 in league action. After Saturday's DH with Madonna was postponed, the next time CU will take the field is on April 8 at UM-Dearborn.
Game Flow
Game 1 – Davenport had two big innings as they posted a 13-1 win in six innings. The Panthers brought across six runs in the first and added six more in the sixth innings for 12 of their 13 runs.
Cornerstone's lone run came in the third inning when senior Alexsandra Szajna (SR/Washington, Mich.) homered to deep left-field.
Game 2 – Cornerstone got out to a quick 1-0 lead when Mackenzie Valled doubled home Harlies Sherman who led off the bottom of the first with a single. That lead would be short-lived however as DU would score two in the second, three in the third and continue to add to their lead throughout the game.
Cornerstone did get single runs in each of their at-bats in the fourth and fifth as Jessica Wright (SO/Jenison, Mich.) and Chelsea Zylstra each scored.
