GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Two big innings for the visiting Cardinals doomed the Golden Eagles on Friday afternoon as Cornerstone was swept in a home doubleheader vs. Concordia. The Cardinals won 6-5 in the opener and 3-1 in the nightcap to drop CU to 8-13 on the season and 2-4 in league play. CU will be back at home on Saturday when they host Siena Heights at 11 a.m.

Game Flow

Game 1 – Concordia started the game with a single run in the opening inning, only two see the Golden Eagle strike right back with an RBI single from MaKenzie Vallad that scored Harlie Sherman (SR/Centreville, Mich.)

After the Cardinals re-took the one-run lead, the Golden Eagles responded with a 4-run third inning in which they got RBI's from Rachel Bode (SR/Manton, Mich.) and Jessica Wright (SO/Jenison, Mich.) while two others scored on errors and wild pitches. Unfortunately, the lead only held until the top of the 5th when CUAA brought across four of their own and that is how it would end with Concordia winning 6-5.

Game 2 – After a scoreless opening inning, the visiting Cardinals broke through in the second as they scored three runs to take a 3-0 lead. Brooke Leonard (SO/Zeeland, Mich.) settled in inside the circle and did not allow another Concordia run but the offense did not back up the sophomore.

CU managed only one run on five hits as they cut the lead to 3-1 in the fourth on a RBI single from Rachel Bode but that would be the only tally for the Golden Eagles.
