GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone used some timely hitting in Game 1 to defeat Cleary 3-2.  Logan Myers went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's for the Golden Eagles.  The Golden Eagles went down 5-0 in the second game and scored four runs in the sixth and seventh innings but came up a run short in the 5-4 loss in the second game.

Game Flow

Game 1- The Golden Eagles got on the board early in the first game of their double header with Cleary University.  Harlie Sherman led off with a triple to left center field and scored on a Logan Myers single to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead.  The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning.  A walk and back to back singles by Alexsandra Szajna and Ciara Wilke loaded the bases and Rachel Nelson grounded out to advance the runner home to make it 2-0.  Cleary got one back in the top of the sixth inning to make it 2-1 but the Golden Eagles responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to reclaim the 2 run lead.  Cornerstone loaded the bases without any hits and Logan Myers hit an RBI single to give the Golden Eagles a 3-1 lead going into the seventh inning.  They would need that insurance run as the Cougars plated one run and got runners on first and second before Alexsandra Szajna threw out the runner at first base to end the game.

Game 2- Cleary scored one run in the third inning and added a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding 5-0 lead but the Golden Eagles made a game of it scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Alexsandra Szajna got an RBI on a fielder's choice and Abby MacArthur hit a two run single up the middle to make it 5-3 after six innings of play.  Harlie Sherman led off with a single and advanced to second on a ground out.  MacKenzie Vallad hit an RBI single to bring the score to 5-4.  Cornerstone got a runner to second base but couldn't bring her home as the Cougars went on to defeat the Golden Eagles 5-4.
