GRAND RAPIDS - Mich. – Looking to get back on track at home, the Golden Eagles were swept by visiting Lourdes on Friday night to fall to 15-24 overall on the season and 9-11 in WHAC play. Cornerstone, which lost 7-3 in the opener and 7-5 in the nightcap, will look to rebound when they host the Gray Wolves on Saturday in a DH starting at 1 p.m. at DeWitt Field.

Game Flow

Game 1 – Lourdes got the scoring started in the first inning on CU starter Ben Sheckler (JR/Sparta, Mich.) but the junior right-hander responded by holding the Gray Wolves off the board for the next three innings without allowing a base-runner in the process. CU got even on a Joe Corsten (FR/Howell, Mich.) RBI single in the second and then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Aaron Krupansky (FR/Hartland, Mich.) had a sac fly that scored Jacob Klemme (SR/Plymouth, Wis.).

Unfortunately for CU that would their last run until the bottom of the ninth but by that time, Lourdes put up one run each in the fifth and sixth innings and then four in the top of the ninth to post the 7-3 win.

Game 2 – The Gray Wolves, who picked up their 9th and 10th wins of the season on Friday, used the momentum from the game one win and carried it into the top of the 1st of the second as they went up 3-0 on CU starter Kyle Marburger (SR/Peru, Ind.). After CU got one back in the second on a Corsten sac fly, the Golden Eagles got a big boost off the bat of Travis Gordon (SR/Lowell, Mich.) who hit a 3-run homerun to tie the game at 4-4 in the third.

LU then rebounded with a 2-run fifth and 1-run sixth to take a 7-4 lead and CU's comeback was halted in in the seventh.
