GRAND RAPIDS - Mich. – A balanced lineup in game one and a walk-off single from Seth Reigner (JR/Birdsboro, Pa.) in game two helped the Cornerstone baseball team post a doubleheader sweep of Lourdes on Saturday afternoon. The 7-3 win in game one and 1-0 victory in game two lift CU to 17-24 on the year and 11-11 in league play. CU will host Aquinas on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at DeWitt Field.

Game Flow

Game 1 – Timely hitting helped the Golden Eagles post the game one 7-3 win as they scored runs in five of the nine innings. CU got on the board in the opening frame when Seth Reigner singled home Aaron Krupansky (FR/Hartland, Mich.) and it was followed by a Jacob Klemme (SR/Plymouth, Wis.) sac fly to score Zach Bohl (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.). The Gray Wolves tied the game at 2-2 in the second but CU starter Justin Geerts (SR/Surrey, B.C.) would hold them in check for the remainder of the game.

Cornerstone took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Bohl doubled home Krupansky and then CU added one more in the sixth on a pinch-hit homerun from Joel Boersen (SR/Jenison, Mich.), one more in the 7th on a bases loaded walk and two more in the 8th on a Reigner double that scored a pair.

Game 2 – Pitching was the story in the nightcap as CU's Brandon Willard (SR/Sylvan Lake, Mich.) went six innings while allowing three hits and striking out two while LU's Brandon Holt went 6.2 innings as he allowed only four hits and one run.

Entering the bottom of the seventh, Travis Gordon (SR/Lowell, Mich.) took a 4-pitch walk and then was pitch-ran for only to see Brady Volmering (SO/Harbor Beach, Mich.) hit into a fielder's choice. After a stolen base advanced Volmering to second, Seth Reigner came up and singled to left-center and Volmering easily beat the throw to finish off the win.
