SYLVANIA, Ohio. – Cornerstone made their second trip down to Sylvania today as their previous games were rained out last week. The Golden Eagles took an early lead but Lourdes rallied with five runs in the final three innings to defeat Cornerstone 5-4 in game one. Cornerstone scored early and often to defeat Lourdes 8-1 in the second game of the double header.
Game Flow
Game 1 – The Golden Eagles got on the board first with three runs in the top of the third inning. Rachel Younts, Rachel Bode, and Alexsandra Szajna all hit RBI singles to give Cornerstone the 3-0 lead. The Gray Wolves got one back in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-1. Cornerstone regained the three run lead in the top of the fourth on a leadoff homer by Elizabeth Albaugh but Lourdes also scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull within a run at 4-3. Lourdes scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and held Cornerstone scoreless in the top of the seventh to win 5-4.
Game 2 – Cornerstone got it going early in game two scoring all eight runs in the first four innings of play. Mackenzie Vallad hit an RBI single and Rachel Younts hit an RBI double to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Abby MacArthur singled, stole second, advanced to third on an Annie Fila single, and scored on a wild pitch to put Cornerstone up 3-0. Fila scored later on a fielder's choice to give Cornerstone a 4-0 lead. Abby MacArthur hit a two out RBI single and Annie Fila hit a double to pick up 2 RBI's to put the Golden Eagles up 7-0 after three innings. Rachel Bode picked up her second RBI of the day with a single in the bottom of the fourth to give the Golden Eagles an 8-0 lead. Lourdes staved off the mercy rule with a run in the bottom of the fifth as Cornerstone would go on to win 8-1.
