ANN ARBOR - Mich. – Ben Sheckler (JR/Sparta, Mich.) rebounded from a rare two-game losing streak as the junior hurled a gem in the opener today at Concordia to help the Golden Eagles post a split. Cornerstone won game one 5-0 before falling in the nightcap 5-4. CU, now 19-26 overall and 13-13 in the WHAC, will play two more against the Cardinals on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Game Flow

Game 1 – The offense put up four run in the top of the first inning and that was more than enough for CU starter Ben Sheckler as the junior left-hander went eight innings to pick up his sixth win of the season. CU got the scoring started with a bases loaded walk to Brady Volmering (SO/Harbor Beach, Mich.), followed it with a passed ball run scoring Travis Gordon (SR/Lowell, Mich.) and then finished it with an RBI single from Jonny Abbadusky (JR/Elverson, Pa.) and sac-fly from Joe Corsten (FR/Howell, Mich.).

Aaron Krupansky (FR/Hartland, Mich.) tacked on the final run of the day in the third inning when he singled home Abbadusky. Sheckler was dominant on the mound as the junior struck out eight while allowing only three hits on the day.

Game 2 – The Golden Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the second inning only to score three of their own in the third when Seth Ritsems scored on an error which was followed by a Brady Volmering RBI single and Jacob Klemme (SR/Plymouth, Wis.) RBI triple.

That 3-2 lead held up until bottom of the fifth when the Cardinals took a 4-3 lead and the home team added one insurance run in the sixth which came back to be huge as CU was only able to score on their half of the seventh, eventually falling 5-4.
