Baseball swept by Concordia to fall in series 3-1

ANN ARBOR - Mich. – Cornerstone was unable to get the bats going on Saturday afternoon as they fell in both games of their doubleheader at Concordia to fall to 19-28 on the season and 13-15 in the WHAC. The Golden Eagles will conclude the regular season with a critical series against Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday and Thursday at home as they fighting for the final playoff spot in the WHAC standings with Siena Heights.

Game Flow
Game 1 – After nearly completing a comeback in the nightcap on Friday evening, the Golden Eagles were not able to overcome the solid pitching of Blake Kuszmaul. The Cardinal allowed just eight hits and gave up only one unearned run to pick up the game one win.

The Concordia bats got to CU starter, Brandon Willard (SR/Sylvan Lake, Mich.) with runs in the second, fourth, sixth and eighth innings to post the 5-2 win. Travis Gordon (SR/Lowell, Mich.) collected both RBI for CU as he drove in Brandon Hepp (FR/Fresno, Calif.) in the seventh and Zach Bohl (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.) in the ninth.

Game 2 – Looking to post a split, the Golden Eagles got a strong start from Kyle Marburger on the mound and held a 2-0 lead after a pair of RBI singles from Joe Corsten (FR/Howell, Mich.) and Adam Harvey (SO/Antioch, Ill.) in the second inning.

Up 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Cornerstone was unable to hold on as Concordia connected on a walk-off 3-run homerun to post the 3-2 win.

What's Next?
Cornerstone finishes the regular season on Wednesday and Thursday at DeWitt Field vs. Northwestern Ohio. The series is critical to CU as they are close with Siena Heights for the final playoff spot in the upcoming WHAC Tourney.
