Box Score 2 LIVONIA, Mich.. – The Golden Eagles went deep four times in their first game against Michigan-Dearborn but the Wolverines doubled up the Golden Eagles in both hits and runs in a 16-8 loss. Cornerstone bounced back in game two to defeat Michigan-Dearborn 7-1 to salvage a split on the day.
Game Flow
Game 1 – Michigan-Dearborn took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Cornerstone got one back in the top of the second on an Elizabeth Albaugh solo shot. Annie Fila hit a 2 RBI double to give Cornerstone the lead and Mackenzie Vallad hit a solo homer to make it 4-2 in the top of the 3rd but the Wolverines scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning to reclaim the lead at 6-4. The Golden Eagles put up another three runs in the fourth powered by a two run shot by Rachel Bode. Michigan-Dearborn responded with three of their own in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-7 and picked up another in the bottom of the fifth to go up 10-7. Alexsandra Szajna hit a solo home run in the sixth inning but the Wolverines put up six in the bottom of the inning to win 16-8.
Game 2 – Cornerstone went up 1-0 in the first inning on a Rachel Younts RBI single and kept that lead through four innings. The Golden Eagles opened up a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning. Mackenzie Vallad got it going with an RBI single, Rachel Bode then hit a 2 RBI double, and Logan Myers hit an RBI single in the inning. Michigan=Dearborn got on the board with a run on two hits in the fifth inning. Cornerstone got two more runs in the top of the sixth on a Mackenzie Vallad 2 RBI single to make it 7-1 and that would be how the game ended.
