Softball to conclude regular season with five WHAC DH's on home turf

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Golden Eagles will conclude the regular season with five doubleheaders on their home turf this week. All ten games will be very critical for the regular WHAC standings as well as the seedings for the postseason tournament that will be played May 2-4 in Sylvania, Ohio. All games will have live stats and live video. This past weekend, the Golden Eagles were swept by UNOH on Friday, but swept Rochester on Saturday to bring their record to 11-11 overall, 6-4 in the WHAC. SCOUTING THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS (Stats as of Sunday at 9:00 p.m.)

Scouting Siena Heights (17-13 overall, 9-7 WHAC)
• Siena Heights is outscoring their opponents 213-166.
• In WHAC play, the Saints swept Rochester and split doubleheaders against Madonna, Indiana Tech, Concordia, Lawrence Tech, UNOH, Michigan Dearborn, and Aquinas.
• SHU leads the WHAC with a .355 team batting average. They also lead the WHAC in RBI per game, with 6.59.
• The pitching staff has the 3rd-worst ERA in the WHAC with 4.41
• Racquel Ward is batting .441 with 22 RBI and six home runs and a .831 slugging percentage.
• Ashley Helmink is batting .400 with 24 RBI and 18 extra-base hits and 21 runs.
• In the Circle, Racquel Ward has a 13-5 record with a 2.86 ERA

Scouting #RV Aquinas (30-12 overall, 9-3 WHAC)
• On March 8, Aquinas defeated #11 Saint Francis 3-0. On March 23, the Saints split a doubleheader with #RV Olivet Nazarene.
• Briana Mairose is batting .431 with 8 home runs and 27 runs scored.
• 7 AQ batters have 30+ hits over 40 games
• Briana Mairose had a 14-game hitting streak snapped vs. Lourdes on April 12. During that stretch, the junior had 9 multi-hit games.
• Aquinas has the third-best batting  average in the WHAC with .328.
• Aquinas leads the WHAC in HR's with a total of 33, coming from nine different batters.
• Marisa Loya has a 12-2 record in the circle with three saves. She has struck out 110 batters in 110 innings of work while holding the opposition to a .227 batting average.

Scouting Lourdes (13-17 overall, 5-7 WHAC)
• Kim Waters leads the team with a .409 batting average.
• Olivia Stanton is batting .394 with 18 RBI and nine extra-base hits.
• Lourdes has a team batting average of .295, with six batters batting upwards of  .320.
• Lourdes started the season 0-5, but won the next six games of their spring break trip.
• The Gray Wolves swept Rochester and Michigan-Dearborn; split with Aquinas; and was swept by Indiana Tech and Concordia.

Scouting Michigan-Dearborn (16-12 overall, 8-6 WHAC)
• The pitching staff has held the opposition to only a .251 batting average, which is best in the WHAC.
• At the plate, the Wolverines are batting .317, including ten batters above .300.
• Kaylie Mcconnell leads the team with a .711 slugging percentage
• Six players have 10+ RBI.
• Gina Verduzco has an ERA of 1.26, which is the best in the WHAC and 15th best in the nation.
• The Wolverines swept Rochester, UNOH, and Indiana Tech; split with Lawrence Tech and Siena Heights; and was swept by Madonna and Lourdes.

HISTORY VS. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS

History vs. Siena Heights
Cornerstone has won 43 of the 61 games since 2001. The teams are an even 5-5 in the last 10 meetings. In 2017, CU and #RV Siena Heights split the doubleheader.

History vs. Aquinas
Aquinas has won 42 of the 69 games since 2001. Cornerstone has won eight of the 13 games since 2013. In 2017, Lexi Lieske tallied seven RBI and two home runs, but CU fell short to #RV Aquinas in both games.

History vs. Concordia
Cornerstone has won 43 of the 62 games since 2001. Concordia, however, has won eight of the last nine meetings. In 2017, CU and CUAA split the doubleheader, with both games decided by one run.

History vs. Lourdes
Since the first meeting in 2013, the teams have split the all-time series 6-6. Over that stretch, Lourdes has scored 20 more runs than Cornerstone. The Gray Wolves have won six of the last seven meetings, including both games in last year's season finale.

History vs. Michigan Dearborn
Since the first meeting in 2008, Cornerstone has won 17 of the 32 meetings. Michigan-Dearborn, however, has won six of the last seven meetings, including both games last year.

NEWS AND NOTES ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES

Ontiveros heating up: Alicia Ontiveros had three multi-hit games over the four-game road trip this past weekend. In the doubleheader against Rochester, she tallied four hits, four RBI, and scored four runs. In the field at second base, Ali has only committed one error in all of conference play for an impressive .958 percentage.

Maddie Vassar filling up the stat sheet: Maddie Vassar leads the team in hits (24) and runs (20). The freshman shortstop from Naperville, Illinois has an impressive .320 batting average and a .952 fielding percentage. Vassar recorded her second three-hit game of the season in game one against Northwestern Ohio on Friday. Vassar is batting .361 in conference play.

Strong Pitching Duo: Rachel Younts has the 4th-best ERA in the WHAC with a 1.95 (and 1.63 against WHAC opponents). Brooke Leonard also has a solid 2.56 ERA. Brooke struck out seven batters in six innings against Rochester. Both pitchers have identical 3-2 records in conference play.

Double Digit Hits: Cornerstone tallied 11 hits in game one against Rochester. It was their first game with double-digit hits since the last game in Florida during spring break.

Senior Day: In between the games on Saturday against Michigan Dearborn, the six Cornerstone seniors will be honored: Ashley Nowland, Delaini Disher, Annie Fila, Whitney Denton, Brooke Leonard, and Jessica Wright.
