Kim Elders to be inducted into BCAM Hall of Fame

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head Men's Basketball Coach Kim Elders will add another hall of fame induction into his legendary coaching career this weekend as the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) has selected Coach Elders as one of four inductees into the 2019 hall of fame. The induction ceremony will take place at the BCAM Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, October 12 from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Coach Elders and his family will be celebrated alongside other Michigan coaching legends at the Auburn Hills Marriott Pontiac Hotel. A few tickets are still available for the event and can be found at BCAM.org if interested in attending.

The Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan was incorporated in the summer of 1976.  The purpose of BCAM was for the betterment of basketball in the state of Michigan.  Forty-two years later, BCAM has shown that it is the voice of basketball in Michigan.  BCAM has also gained respectability nationwide by being a leader in clinics, academic awards, scholarship programs, websites, awards for players and coaches, official – coach relationships, and as a policy setter for national concerns.

BCAM believes that one of our main purposes is to honor our member coaches.  We do this by having the membership nominate regional and state coaches of the year (1976).  These coaches are also honored at the Hall of Fame Banquet.  Boys and girls coaches are nominated for national honors (1976) sponsored by national coaches associations.  Other coaching honors include:  men and women college coaches of the year (1992) and Century Club Awards (1983) given to coaches who have 100, or multiples of 100, victories.

When asked about the induction, Coach Kim Elders stated, "to be inducted into the BCAM Hall of Fame is an unbelievable honor. I am very humbled by this. So many people have made this award possible for me. God has blessed our program with so many great players over the years as well. My coaching staff has been an incredible help to me and they deserve this award as much as I do. I want to than the Cornerstone administration for their encouragement and support as well. I also want to thank my wife Holly for all of her support. She is my number one fan and this could not have been achieved without her. To God be the glory!"

Coach Elders was also recently inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame last spring, as he has won three NAIA DII National Championships, 11 WHAC Championships, and 10 WHAC Tournament Championships over his 26 seasons as head coach. Coach Elders has compiled an overall record of 678-242 (.732) in 26 seasons and is coming off a WHAC Championship and run to the NAIA DII National Tournament second round last season.

Coach Elders and the Golden Eagles will open the 2019-20 season with one of the toughest schedules in basketball competing in the WHAC/CL Challenge down at Indiana Wesleyan. The season will open with one of the nation's best in Indiana Wesleyan on the 25thfollowed by a neutral site game against defending NAIA DII National Champion Spring Arbor.
