Last Time vs. Taylor
The Golden Eagles opened the season with a double-header against the Trojans on February 5thand lost a pair of pitching duels 3-1 and 3-0. Aaron Krupansky would record the lone RBI for the Golden Eagles that day, bringing Cain Ruiz around to record the only CU run. Cornerstone recorded six hits in the 14 innings of play with Dustin DeBeau, Aaron Krupasnky, and Brandon Hepp each having two. On the mound Daniel Abbgy and Chandler McKinney would get the starts, giving up a combined three earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

New Faces
CU would see four new faces get game action in the Golden Eagles season opener in three transfers and a one of freshmen. Junior Cain Ruiz started in right field and led-off in both games for the Golden Eagles. Ruiz comes to Cornerstone from Sullivan County CC in Valley Stream, N.Y. and enters his first season of NAIA Baseball. Sophomore transfer Chandler McKinney got the game two start on the mound after he transferred into Cornerstone after a year at NCAA DII Arizona Christian University. Liam Griffin would get the start at second base in game two for his first varsity action as a Golden Eagle after transferring from WHAC foe Concordia. The only freshman to see game action was Austin Hurt who would start both games at third base. Hurt comes to CU from Edwardsburg HS in Niles, Michigan.

Return from Injury
After a brutal season ending knee injury last season, Clayton Coatney would return to the diamond for the first time since September 29, 2017. The ultimate utility man would both pitch and hit in his return for the Golden Eagles.

Veteran Roster
Head Coach Chuck Lowitzki enters his third season at the helm of Cornerstone with his most veteran roster yet. CU has 11 seniors on the roster, four of those being pitchers and seven being position players. Some of the key returners include fifth year seniors Dustin DeBeau, Noah Reed, and Collin Young who all came back to use their final season of eligibility at CU.
