GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After 10 seasons as head women's volleyball coach at Cornerstone University,
Ryan Campbell has announced he is stepping down from his position. Ryan, a Cornerstone University alum who has been around the program for 15 years as a student assistant and coach, is ready to enter a new phase of life as he is in communication with another school to accept a position there.
In 10 seasons as the head volleyball coach at CU, Campbell has posted a 264-117 record taking his team to three consecutive NAIA National Tournaments from 2016-2018. Campbell helped the Golden Eagles to three WHAC Titles as well, winning the regular season title in 2016 and the WHAC Tournament Title in both 2017 and 2018. Campbell who was the longest running coach in Cornerstone history is also the winningest coach in program history. He has also coached five NAIA All-Americans as well as the WHAC Player of the Year, Setter of the Year, and Libero of the Year.
Ryan is appreciative of his time at Cornerstone stating, "I am excited to start my new position, but I am very thankful for my time at Cornerstone. I have spent the last 15 years at CU as a student and a coach. I have learned a lot and made some great friends. I would like to say thank you to all the leadership that has molded me and all the past and current players for their dedication to the program. A special thanks to Steve Burmaster for bringing me on as an assistant and sparking my interest in coaching, Dave Grube for believing in me enough to hire me as the head coach, and
Phil Keith, CU Athletic Trainer, who has been a constant mentor and comic relief since day one."
Athletic Director
Aaron Sagraves had this to say about coach
Ryan Campbell: "Coming in as a student manager and transitioning into the coaching role now 10 years ago, Ryan has built one of the most respected and successful programs in the WHAC and has seen national success as well. His attention to the AND culture we want will be missed as the volleyball players were some of our strongest leaders on our campus over the years! Leaders in their faith, academics and in our athletic community."
