Box Score KISSIMMEE, Fla. – On a brisk morning in Kissimmee, Florida the Golden Eagles earned a split with CCAC foe Trinity Christian College. CU fell 5-3 in game one and rebounded with a 7-3 win in game two. The win snaps a five-game losing streak for Cornerstone and moves their record to 4-9 on the year. Thursday will serve as an off day for CU and they will pick up action for another double-header against Trinity Christian College on Friday starting at 9:15 a.m.
Game One
- After a quick first two innings for both starters, Trinity Christian found the scoreboard in the top of the third after a sacrifice bunt scored a runner from third base to give the Trolls a 1-0 lead without recording a hit.
- After back-to-back hits to start the fourth and end the Noah Reed no hitter, the Trolls took advantage of a couple passed balls and walks to score two more runs and lead 3-0.
- Cornerstone quickly got those three runs back tying the game in the bottom of the fourth, after Clayton Coatney hit a single to score Trevor Bastien and Austin Hurt hit a triple to score Brandon Hepp and Clayton Coatney.
- Noah Reed pitched a strong fifth inning, but would have to exit in the sixth after TCC hit an RBI single to take a 4-3 lead.
- Brett Shure came in for relief and got the Golden Eagles out of the inning trailing by just one.
- Shure returned to the mound in the seventh and gave up an insurance run to the Trolls on an RBI single from the TCC DH Austin Wood.
- Trolls reliever Christian Howell sat CU down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh, earning a save to result in a 5-3 loss for the Golden Eagles.
Game Two
- Both starting pitchers recorded a 1-2-3 first inning with CU starter Chandler McKinney recording a strikeout in the first.
- After a Trevor Bastien walk to lead off the second inning, Cornerstone would eventually bring him around to score on a balk by the TCC pitcher giving CU the 1-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles quickly added a second run, scoring in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Jarod Burton that brought home the courtesy runner Chase Mitchell.
- Trinity Christian responded with one run in the bottom of the third as an RBI single by Chris Baker cut the Cornerstone lead to 2-1 after three innings of play.
- Both pitchers had a clean fourth inning with a total of one hit being recorded.
- In the fifth, Cornerstone added a pair of insurance runs on an Aaron Krupansky sacrifice fly and a wild pitch by TCC that scored Chase Mitchell to increase the lead to 4-1.
- McKinney ran into his first real trouble in the fifth allowing the bases to get loaded with no outs. TCC took advantage scoring two runs to cut the deficit to just one.
- CU quickly responded, as Kyle DeSchryver hit an RBI single down the left field line to score Trevor Bastien and increase the lead back to two at 5-3.
- Cornerstone added more insurance in the top of the seventh inning scoring on an RBI walk from Trevor Bastien and a Trneton Gilman RBI single to increase the lead to 7-3.
- Alan LaBov pitched the final two innings of the game, allowing two hits and one walk but wouldn't let a run cross the plate to record his first career save in a 7-3 game two win.
