Baseball to play NCAA DI for first time in program history as part of five game week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles are excited for a big week as they begin by hosting Central Michigan this evening for a 5:30 p.m. game vs. the NCAA DI Chippewas. CU will be playing an NCAA DI opponent for the first time in program history. The game was initially scheduled to be played in Mount Pleasant, but due to weather conditions has been moved to Grand Rapids. Cornerstone will also play two conference double-headers later in the week, hosting Concordia on Friday at 1 p.m. and traveling to UM-Dearborn on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.

Cornerstone Baseball Quick Facts:
  • Cornerstone will play an NCAA Division I opponent this week for the first time in program history, followed by a pair of WHAC double-headers on Easter weekend vs. Concordia and at UM-Dearborn. The Golden Eagles are currently 14-20, 7-7 WHAC on the year after splitting the last four conference series. With four WHAC series remaining CU sits in seventh in the conference standings. 
  • Senior Gabe Zeiger has been dominating at the plate of late, with an average of .488 in conference games this season. Zeiger highlighted this week with a 4-4 performance in the 6-0 win vs. Siena Heights tying a career high.
  • Collin Young had yet another outstanding outing last week pitching his second complete game shutout to drop his ERA back to 1.80 on the year.
  • CU will take on NCAA DI Central Michigan for the first time in program history. CMU sits at 25-10 on the year and 8-4 MAC. 
  • Despite having a 24-13 record overall, Concordia has struggled in conference play going just 4-6. Blaine Milheim leads CUAA at the plate batting .518 with a team high 33RBI. 
  • UM-Dearborn sits just ahead of CU in sixth in the WHAC losing five straight games.
