GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – As we enter a week where we celebrate the independence of the United States of America, we highlight Cornerstone track & field alum Nicole Frazier (Daniels) who has recently been hired into the White House as the Director of African American Outreach. Frazier was a 2008 graduate of Cornerstone and was named the WHAC Female Athlete of the Year in the 2008 outdoor season before embarking upon a political career path that has led to a position at the White House.
As the new Director of African American Outreach, Frazier fills a role in the Trump administration that had been vacant for a few months. She enters this role amidst President Trump's 2020 re-election efforts where Frazier is tasked with developing connection between the African American community and the Trump administration.
As with any role in the White House comes significant responsibility, but Frazier is ready for the challenge as former White House Director of Black Outreach for President George W. Bush stated this to the Axios about Frazier, "I'm glad President Trump was able to identify such a capable person in Nicole, to serve in OPL for this incredibly important position. It is a good thing to have another African American at the table in the White House as our advocate and I stand ready to help her succeed."
Before President Trump's administration selected Frazier to this role in the White House, she served as the Regional Director for Colorado Senator Cory Gardner. In this role, Frazier helped manage and maintain the Colorado Senator's campaign and office.
At Cornerstone, Nicole Frazier (Daniels) capped off a great career being named the 2008 WHAC Female Outdoor Athlete of the Year with 37 points as she competed in sprints, jumps, and hurdles for the Golden Eagles. 37 points at the WHAC Outdoor meet ranks as the sixth most in Golden Eagle program history to date. Nicole set a WHAC meet record in the 100m hurdles in 2008 with a time of 14.39 and then also won the long jump that year with a jump of 17' 6.25. Nicole would have had the chance for more WHAC Championships, but with no WHAC Championship meet instituted from 2005-07, she was unable to compete at that level until her senior season.
Former assistant coach Paul Koutz who had the opportunity to coach Nicole had this to say when reflecting about their time together at CU, "Nicole has always carried herself in a special way. As an athlete, she was a WHAC Athlete of the Year. As a captain, she mentored and loved those around her. The qualities she has in life are more a reflection of taking exceptional care of her teammates and practicing servant leadership more than they are about what she contributed in the hurdles and jumps."
Cornerstone University is excited to see how God uses Frazier in this new role as she looks to leave her mark in the White House just as she left her mark with the Golden Eagle track & field program.
