Offense, Offense, Offense
The Golden Eagles sit in the best position they ever have in program history within the WHAC, due to a high powered offense. Cornerstone ranks first in the WHAC with a .312 team batting average, and leads the conference in hits per game averaging an obserd 10.09. Cornerstone also ranks best in the WHAC and within the top 25 in the NAIA in triples with 16 this season.
Austin Hurt and
Jordan Wenzel have each recorded four to lead the team and rank 22nd in the NAIA individually. As far as season records go, if it was not for a shortened season, Cornerstone would be on pace to break just about every offensive category in program history.
Scouting UNOH
After a slow start to the season, the Racers have started to find their way, winning eight of their last 11 games with their only losses coming at UM-Dearborn and a pair of losses at Indiana Tech. UNOH is aggressive especially on the base pads as they sit right behind Cornerstone with 15 triples this season to go along with 2.26 stolen bases per game. Despite the aggressiveness, it has not always paned out for Northwestern Ohio as they also are one of the NAIA leaders in caught stealings, with 17 so far this season. Offensively, Don Goodes is hitting .391, while leading the team with 14 stolen bases and 32 runs scored. On the mound, the Racers have seen Drew Clavenna lead the way as the teams best starter with a 5-4 record and a 3.61 ERA to go along with a team high 56 strikeouts. the rest of the staff has been inconsistent as they hold a team ERA of 5.94 while allowing 152 earned runs this season.
Scouting Indiana Tech
Indiana Tech is in the top three in the WHAC in terms of games played this season going 23-20 on the year. The defending WHAC Champions have been as streaky as they get, starting the year with a seven game losing streak. As of March 13th the Warriors sat with a record of just 3-12. Since then, IIT has gone 20-8, seeing win streaks of five and eight games as well as another losing streak of five games. Indiana Tech is a new team, losing a lot of their star players from a season ago and that has showed at the plate, hitting just .290 as a team. On the mound, the Warriors have been exceptional with two starters posting a 3.79 ERA in Spenser McGhee and Yeshua Saint, with a third starter in Hayes Sturtsman with a 4.10 ERA. The IIT pitching staff has struck out 329 batters this year with eight players recording more than 20.
