GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone returns to action after just over a week off with a pair of non-conference games this week as they travel to two Crossroads League opponents in Goshen and Grace College. The team looks to rebound after two straight losses as they take on Goshen on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and receiving votes Grace on Saturday at 7 p.m. Live links to watch the game can be found on the men's soccer schedule at cugoldeneagles.com.
Offensive Chances
Through four games this season, Cornerstone has increased their total number of shots each game, but it has not been reflected in the score line as the team has been held scoreless the last two games. CU recorded 13 shots against Saint Xavier, a season high, and even outshot the Cougars but fell 2-0 as SXU made 11 saves. Freshman
Boston Knapp continues to lead the Golden Eagles in points with four as the only member to have multiple goals this season.
Split Time in Net
Due to injury, Cornerstone has seen a pair of keepers in net, with
Ethan Pike starting his first game last time out. The two have each played between 150 and 160 minutes so far this year. Pike has made seven saves while giving up three goals for a .700 save percentage.
Alan Roman has made 14 saves while giving up four goals for a .778 save percentage.
Scouting Goshen
After going under .500 in each of the last three seasons and not winning a game in 2020, Goshen has got off to an outstanding start under first year Head Coach Victor Newberg with a 3-0-2 record. The Maple Leafs have already played two WHAC opponents, defeating UM-Dearborn 2-1 and tying Madonna 0-0. The Goshen defense has been outstanding through five games, allowing just three goals, as senior keeper Matias da Fonseca holds a .870 save percentage with 20 saves this season. Offensively, senior Lucas Bontreger has scored three of the teams 10 goals and added a pair of assists for a team high eight points.

Randy Strawser's son Mitchel Strawser is a senior midfielder for the Lancers and will be playing against the Golden Eagles for the first time in his career.
Scouting Grace
Grace is receiving votes in the NAIA top 25 preseason coaches' poll, as a new poll is set to come out on Wednesday, September 8. The Lancers started the season great with two wins at home before dropping four straight on a trip to Florida and Kansas over the last two weekends. Three of those four losses were to teams in the NAIA Top 25, including the NAIA top ranked team Missouri Valley who they lost to 2-1. Grace is loaded with upper classman with 18 players having junior or senior status. The team has scored 10 goals this season with five players scoring those goals, led by Martim Cardoso who has five. Grace moves the ball exceptionally well, with 14 assists coming on those 10 goals, meaning there have been multiple double assists so far this season.
