Last Year Recap
Cornerstone had one of their best seasons in recent history last year, going 17-17, 9-11 WHAC to finish fifth in the conference standings. CU qualified for the WHAC Tournament for the first time since 2016 and fell in the double-elimination tournament against Concordia and UM-Dearborn. The Golden Eagle offense was a standout last season as
McKenzie Butgereit led the team with a .354 batting average and five HR's. Pitcher/DH
Kaitlin Johnson also had an outstanding year at the plate, hitting .321 with 18 RBI.
The 2022 Roster
Cornerstone has a great mix of veteran leadership and young talent in 2022 as
McKenzie Butgereit,
Allisen Martz,
Kaitlin Johnson, and
Mikayla Meade all return to the team after standout years in 2021. CU is also excited to add seven freshmen to the varsity roster as well as a transfer in junior
Jolie Groeneveld that the team is very high on.
Coach Addition
Cornerstone keeps the same coaching staff from the 2021 year as
Kelsey Kooistra and her staff of
Bill McElroy,
Mike Gruppen, and
Kim Zainea stay on staff. CU also adds
Molly Chesebro as an assistant this year after spending multiple years coaching all over the country including time at GRCC, Drury University, University of Antelop Valley, College of the Canyon's, and Occidental College. She also has spent time in the travel ball circuit during her coaching career.
Schedule Layout
Cornerstone will go back to Florida this year to compete in the NTC Spring Games for their next action after tomorrow's double-header. CU will play over spring break and will play 12 games between March 5-12, including three games against NAIA Top 25 opponents.
