Protest Upheld
In a once in a program type experience, Cornerstone lost a win due to a protest from UM-Dearborn that was upheld from the first game played on March 25. Due to a mistaken call that gave Cornerstone two runs in the first inning, the NAIA ruled that it effected the overall result of the game which then required the game to be removed as a CU win and sit as postponed at this time. If the contest effects the end of the year standings in the WHAC, Cornerstone and UM-Dearborn will be required to replay the contest prior to the conference tournament. If it does not affect the final standings, the game will remain as an unplayed contest with no statistics counting.
Weekend Radar
Weather is once again expected to strike this weekend across the state of Michigan with rain and snow expected on Friday and a 39-degree day expected on Saturday. CU will work with opposing coaches and administration over the next few days and will announce any potential reschedules at cugoldeneagles.com.
First Ever Sweep of Tech
Last time out, Cornerstone swept the defending WHAC Champion Indiana Tech Warriors 5-4 and 9-3. This is the first time in CU program history they have ever swept Indiana Tech in a regular season double-header as the Golden Eagle pitching was once again dominant in the win.
Cutler brings CU to 23
In the 5-4 game one victory over Indiana Tech,
George Cutler hit a three-run bomb that gave CU the lead. That HR not only helped Cornerstone win the game but was their 23
rd of the year which set a new single season program record. The previous record was 22 set back in 2016 as Cornerstone continues to prove that they have one of the most prolific offenses in the WHAC this season. 23 home runs puts CU tied for second in the conference with Concordia as UNOH is the only team to hit more with 33 so far this season.
Scouting Madonna
The Crusaders got off to a great start but have struggled of late, losing five of their last seven contests. They hold an 11-6, 4-4 WHAC record so far this season and have lost four of their six games by three runs or less. Junior Jace Matkin has been the standout for MU this season, hitting .558 with seven HR's, 20 runs scored, and 26 RBI to lead the team in just about every offensive category. On the mound, Madonna has recorded a ton of strikeouts averaging 10.55 per nine, led by Ryan Dusang the sophomore who has 30K's despite his 9.28 ERA.
Scouting Concordia
The Cardinals have been one of the best in the WHAC in recent years and they have played the most games of any team in the conference this season, going 23-13, 5-5 WHAC so far. CUAA has lost their last three games as they were most recently swept at Northwestern Ohio. Concordia has an outstanding offense as they average 7.3 runs a game and are hitting .306 as a team. Junior Jimmy Wressel leads the team with a .417 average, while redshirt freshman Aaron West has a team high seven home runs. The pitching has struggled this season with a team ERA of 6.11 as they gave up 16 runs in their last game to UNOH, falling 16-15.
