Meny hits for the cycle as pitching shuts down Rochester in a double header sweep

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It was the final home game for Baseball as they welcomed Rochester for another round of games. Cornerstone celebrated their seniors with a double header sweep of the Warriors that saw a little bit of everything. Cornerstone won game one 12-2 behind a solid hitting performance from the offense and pitching performance from Lucas Vega. In game two, Andrew Meny hit for the cycle and Mason Leckrone had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning as they would win 11-1 in eight innings. Baseball improves to 19-24 (14-12) on the year as they will travel to Lawrence Tech for a double header on Wednesday, April 24 starting at 1 p.m.
 
Game One Highlights – Cornerstone 12 – Rochester Christian - 2
  • Lucas Vega is through two strong scoreless innings as the game remains tied.
  • Daniel Freeman drove in the first run of the game with a deep sac fly to make it 1-0 after the bottom of the second.
  • Rochester used back-to-back two out hits to score their first run of the game to tie it 1-1 in the third.
  • JC Salinas would come through with two outs to give Cornerstone a 2-1 lead after a single into centerfield.
  • Daniel Freeman drove in his second run of the game with a double into right center to make it 3-1. Andrew Meny would follow that up with a homerun off the scoreboard to extend the lead 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Vega works a quick 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts to keep Rochester off the board in the fifth inning.
  • Matthew Kindley gets the big hit in the inning, clearing the bases with a triple to score three as Cornerstone is now leading 9-1.
  • Andrew Meny brought home another run in the bottom of the sixth with a sac fly to make it 10-1. Ben Barnes would bring in two more with a single up the middle to make it 12-1.
  • Rochester would score one in the seventh, but the Golden Eagles would win game one 12-2.
 
Game Two Highlights – Cornerstone – 11 Rochester – 1 F/8
  • Steve Hoeksema steals two bags and forces an error as he would score to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead in the first.
  • Daniel Freeman adds another in the bottom of the second with an infield single to make it 2-0.
  • Mason Leckrone is through three no hit innings as the Golden Eagles lead 2-0.
  • Daniel Freeman continued to put the ball in play as a single into centerfield makes it 3-0 in the fourth inning. Andrew Meny would follow with a two-run homerun off the wrestling building to make it 5-0. With two outs, Ben Barnes singled home a run to make it 6-0 after the fourth inning.
  • Mason Leckrone has continued to pitch well as he is through five hit-less innings on the mound.
  • Rochester records their first hit of the game with one out in the top of the seventh and would later score on an RBI single to make it 6-1.
  • It continued to be the Daniel Freeman day as his groundout brought in another Golden Eagle run, making it 7-1 in the seventh. Andrew Meny would record his fifth hit of the game, this one being a triple to complete the cycle! Andrew Eley would bunt him home to now make it 8-1. Cornerstone drove in two more runs as they have extended their lead 10-1 after the seventh.
  • Ben Cunningham shuts down the bats in the top of the eighth and the flaming hot bat Daniel Freeman hit in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to take game two, 11-1
