Bourbonnais, Ill. – Softball battled with Olivet Nazarene in a double-header where game one ended in heartbreak for the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone put together six strong innings but one slip up was the difference in a tight 7-6 first game. In the second contest of the day the ladies stood on business as they came away with a 6-0 victory. Cornerstone rebounds quickly for another pair of games against Judson on Saturday, March 15
th.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 6 Olivet Nazarene – 7
- The game started in a flash for Morgan Jenkins as she doubled for the Golden Eagles at the first at bat of the day.
- Anna Griffioen singled to bring in the first run of the day as Cornerstone led 1-0 after the first inning.
- The game stalled for a moment, but Sam Timmer brought it back to life as she secured a hit to give Cornerstone another run and a 2-0 lead at the top of the 3rd inning.
- The next big play of the game came from Paige Liddell as she drove in, yet another Cornerstone run as the Golden Eagles continued their hot start to the day as they led 4-0.
- The Golden Eagles believed they were cruising until the bottom of the 5th inning when Olivet Nazarene turned the game upside down and scored six straight runs to earn a 6-5 lead.
- The Tigers earned another run in the next inning as Cornerstone struggled to fight back as they found themselves down two runs.
- Taylor Zwagerman brought in one run for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the 7th inning, but it was just one too little as Cornerstone fell 7-6 in game one of the double-header.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 6 Olivet Nazarene – 0
- Game two started off strong for both defenses as pitching was strong with multiple strikeouts from both sides.
- The gritty Cornerstone hitting secured the first run of the game in the top of the 3rd inning.
- Delaney Wilson found the next crucial strike for Cornerstone as she doubled to center field to set up the Golden Eagles for a big 4th inning.
- Anna Griffioen capped off the three run inning with a strong rip down the middle as the ladies had a 4-0 advantage headed into the final few innings.
- The strong Cornerstone defense continued to thrive with McKenna Gilde at the mound as she secured anther strikeout to take the game into the 6th inning.
- Moriah Sprague capped off the Golden Eagles offense with one more big hit that drove in two more runs for Cornerstone to lead 6-0 at the top of the 6th.
- Cornerstone secured the shutout over the Tigers in game two of the double-header as McKenna Gilde continued to shine.
By the Numbers:
14 – The Golden Eagles left 14 runners on base combined in the two games.
5 – Cornerstone had some big hitters today as they tallied five doubles.
10 – The pitching was strong from the ladies as they combined for 10 total strikeouts in the double-header.

The Golden Eagles have a quick turnaround in another double-header as they battle against Judson University on Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 and 3:00.
