Elgin, Ill. – Softball leaned on strong pitching from
Alyssa Braam in game one of their double-header against Judson coming away with a 4-0 victory. It was the same story in game two as the Golden Eagles controlled from the beginning as they went on to win 8-2. Cornerstone continues their road trip as they open conference play against Defiance on Friday, March 21
st.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 4 Judson – 0
- Morgan Jenkins kicked off the day with her signature single and stolen base to set up the Golden Eagles early in the game.
- Cornerstone found a sacrifice allow them to see the first score of the contest as they took a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning.
- The Golden Eagles took advantage of the errors on the Judson defense as they extended their lead to 2-0 after the 2nd inning.
- Moriah Sprague continued the streak of one run per inning for the Golden Eagles in the 3rd as she drove in a run to secure a strong 3-0 lead for Cornerstone.
- The impressive pitching from the mound continued for Alyssa Braam as the strikeouts began to add up down the stretch.
- Paige Liddell and Morgan Jenkins secured singles in the top of the 4th inning to drive in the final run of the game for the Golden Eagles.
- The Golden Eagles finished off the game well on the defensive side as they only allowed five total hits on their way to a 4-0 win.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 8 Judson – 2
- Judson started off the game with a crucial error of allowing Morgan Jenkins on base which turned into two stolen bases, but the Eagles were lucky to make it through the inning without any damage.
- Both teams had strong defensive performances up until the 3rd inning where Judson had errors pile up that gifted Cornerstone to a 2-0 advantage.
- Emma Boonstra singled to kick off the 4th inning which set up the Golden Eagles well for a big move.
- Strong at bats led to a Gabby Mecca strike that drove in two more runs for Cornerstone.
- Sam Timmer closed out the inning with a base hit that propelled the Golden Eagles to a 6-0 lead headed into the final few innings.
- Allie Lubben came in to close out the game and immediately made an impact as she struck out two batters in the 4th inning to soften the damage as Cornerstone still led 6-1.
- The two freshman Gabby Mecca and Taylor Moeggenberg made a difference in the 6th inning with hits that drove in runs as the Golden Eagles led 8-1.
- The strong pitching closed out the game for Cornerstone as they finished with an 8-2 victory to secure the sweep.
By the Numbers:
9 – The strong group on the mound combined for nine total strikeouts on the day.

Morgan Jenkins stole four bases total in the double-header.
16 – Cornerstone showed success from the plate but still managed to leave 16 runners on base combined through both games.

The Golden Eagles take a six-day break before traveling to Defiance to open up WHAC conference play on Friday, March 21
st at 3:00 and 5:00.
