MELBOURNE, Fla. – Softball kicked off another double header against Waldorf where they came away with a dominant 11-0 victory. It only took the Golden Eagles five innings to make this one final as they saw eight different batters collect a hit.
Morgan Jenkins shined in this game with three hits and three RBI's for Cornerstone. In the second game of the day, it was not the same story as Cornerstone simply could not get their game going as they fell 3-0 to Bethel. The ladies will live and learn as they prepare for two more games on Friday, March 7
th against Calumet College and Huntington University.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 11 Waldorf – 0
- Waldorf kicked off the start of the game with a hit, but McKenna Gilde controlled it with two strikeouts for the Golden Eagles.
- A strong leadoff combo opened up the Golden Eagles scoring as Morgan Jenkins and Gabby Mecca both recorded hits to make the game 1-0 after the 1st inning.
- Alayna Meade kicked off the top of the 2nd inning with a strike into right field.
- The Golden Eagles added two more runs thanks to another hit from Morgan Jenkins as they held complete control of the game.
- Moriah Sprague singled through the left side to advance runners into scoring territory in the bottom of the 3rd.
- The next at bat resulted in a Delaney Wilson connection to drive in a run for Cornerstone.
- Taylor Zwagerman cracked a deep ball over the center fielders head to drive in two more runs with her strong triple.
- The Golden Eagles next big play came from once again Morgan Jenkins who tripled to right field as the 3rd inning came to a close with a Golden Eagle 10-0 advantage.
- Cornerstone managed to drive in one more run with two big hits from Taylor Moeggenbe and Allie Lubben in the bottom of the 4th.
- McKenna Gilde finished out her strong pitching day as the Golden Eagles walked away with a 11-0 victory in five innings.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Bethel – 3
- The Golden Eagles offense started off slow in this game which the Pilots took advantage of as they drove in one run to kick off the 1st inning.
- Three quick putouts for the Bethel defense was the story of the second inning as Cornerstone continued to struggle to find their bats from game one.
- Bethel struck again in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead over the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone finally found a hot bat through Anna Griffioen who tripled to the back wall to lead off the 4thinning.
- The Golden Eagles could not place the ball through the gaps once again as it was three straight ground outs with the score still at 2-0.
- The story continued in the 5th inning as Taylor Zwagerman was on third but could not find a batter to send her home.
- Morgan Jenkins looked to kick start the offense quickly with another triple but her attempt at an infield home run was cut out by the Bethel defense.
- The Pilots broke through once more before the end of the game and defeated the Golden Eagles 3-0 in a tight battle.
