WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Baseball concluded their spring break trip with a double header loss to Valley City 8-1 and 4-1. Defense hurt the Golden Eagles in game one as six unearned runs came across in an inning for the Vikings on their way to the victory. In game two, pitching dominated on both sides with Valley City shutting down the Golden Eagle bats. Baseball now drops to 0-16 on the year as they will take a week break before facing off against Cleary to open conference play on Friday, March 14.
Game One Recap: Valley City – 8 Cornerstone - 1
- Conner Comiskey worked around a two-out error to keep Valley City off the board in the top of the first.
- Valley City strung some hits together in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead over Cornerstone. The Vikings big hit in the inning came off a bases clearing double to make it 4-0 as the Golden Eagles errors have come back to haunt them. They would tack on two more thanks to a single and a wild pitch to make it 6-0.
- Valley City would load the bases with two outs and bring in another on a single to extend their lead 7-0 in the fourth.
- Andrew Eley collected the first hit for the Golden Eagles with a solo homerun to get Cornerstone on the board in the bottom of the fourth.
- It continued to be all Valley City in this one as they added another on sac fly to extend their lead 8-1 in the sixth.
- Scott Cavitt worked a scoreless seventh with a pair of strikeouts as the Golden Eagles have one last chance in this game.
- The bats go down quiet in the bottom of the seventh as the Golden Eagles lose game one to Valley City 8-1.
Game Two Recap: Valley City – 4 Cornerstone - 1
- Valley City would cash in a leadoff double in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles threatened in the top of the second but left the bases loaded as Valley City continued to lead 1-0.
- Brody Nelson worked around a base loaded jam in the bottom of the second to keep Valley City at one.
- The Vikings added onto their lead thanks to a solo homerun as the game is now 2-0 in favor of Valley City. They would tack on another thanks to a double off the center field fence to make it 3-0 after the third.
- Back-to-back doubles from Valley City saw them score one, this made it a 4-0 game in the fifth.
- The Golden Eagles squandered a scoring chance as they stranded the runner at second in the top of the sixth.
- Grant DeRose led off the top of the seventh with a double and would later come home on a Luke Griffith sac fly but Cornerstone would fall in game two to Valley City 4-1.

16 – Cornerstone did not win a game in Florida, starting their season 0-16
3 – Golden Eagle pitchers hit three more batters today, bringing their season total to 53 on the year
