Softball makes quick work of Lawrence Tech as they close out the regular season on a 13-game win streak

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Softball put together another day of winning as they move to 13 straight wins. The ladies made quick work of game one as they rolled over Lawrence Tech 14-2 in five innings. The second game started off slow but two big innings allowed Cornerstone to take game two winning 8-0 in five innings once again. The ladies now shift their focus to post season play as they begin on Wednesday, April 30 in Sylvania, Ohio. 
 
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 14 Lawrence Tech – 2
  • Anna Griffioen kicked off the top of the inning with a fantastic snag and then turned it into offensive with the first hit of the day to start the early Golden Eagles swarm in the 1st inning. 
  • The Golden Eagles posted a quick two runs thanks to Sam Timmer and Delaney Wilson RBI's as they took an early 2-0 lead.
  • The 2nd inning started well once again for Cornerstone as Morgan Jenkins and Maddy Chatman both reached bases which Anna Griffioen took advantage of for her second double of the day as Cornerstone led 4-0 with all three outs still left to give for the Blue Devils. 
  • Lawrence Tech could not hold Cornerstone as Alexis Ashbay knocked a liner down the right side to drive in a run with the home team now leading 5-0 at the end of the 2nd inning. 
  • The Blue Devils showed some life in the top of the 3rd inning as they punched in two runs to get on the board. 
  • Cornerstone stayed hot in the 3rd with a Morgan Jenkins triple that brought two more runs in for the home squad. 
  • Anna Griffioen and Alexis Ashbay secured singles to drive in one run each as Cornerstone led 9-2 with outs still to give. 
  • Taylor Zwagerman took advantage of a long battle at the plate that she turned into a double into center field which earned two more Golden Eagle runs. 
  • Lawrence Tech managed to get out of the inning but not without surrendering another run as they now trailed 12-2 at the end of the 3rd inning. 
  • Alayna Meade kicked off the bottom of the 4th inning with a double as the Golden Eagles bats remained on fire. 
  • Kaylee Misialek and Rylee Stephenson boosted Cornerstone to another two-run inning as they rolled into the 5th up 14-2. 
  • Alexis Ashbay found three straight fly outs to close out a dominant game one performance.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 8 Lawrence Tech – 0
  • Lawrence Tech looked to be set up to score first but the arm of Maddy Chatman threw out the runner headed home as the Golden Eagles closed out the inning undamaged. 
  • Paige Liddell highlighted the top of the 2nd inning with a double play that kept the game scoreless early. 
  • Singles by Taylor Zwagerman and Maddy Chatman set up the Golden Eagles well as they looked to break the seal in the bottom of the 3rd inning. 
  • Morgan Jenkins nuked a ball over the left field wall that gave Cornerstone a three-run lead as they entered the 4th inning. 
  • The Golden Eagles saw Sam Timmer double to start the bottom of the 4th to set up another potential scoring inning.
  • Alexis Ashbay singled through the middle to load the bases for the Golden Eagles with three outs still yet to give. 
  • The Golden Eagles continued to punch in runs thanks to a Taylor Zwagerman single and a Morgan Jenkins double as they led 6-0 still in the bottom of the 4th inning. 
  • Anna Griffioen knocked a ball to the back wall to close out the inning and boost Cornerstone to an 8-0 lead only needing three outs at the top of the 5th to close out the sweep. 
  • Morgan Jenkins let a rocket fly to secure the out at home plate that helped Cornerstone close out the sweep with both wins coming in five innings. 
By the Numbers:
10 – Cornerstone only allowed 10 innings to be played today with both games ending early on run rule. 
24 – The Golden Eagles dominated the plate with 24 hits across both games. 
17 – Morgan Jenkins tallied the ladies 17th home run of the season and her 3rd of the year. 

What's Next?
The Golden Eagles now turn towards post season play beginning on Wednesday, April 30 in Sylvania, Ohio as they wait for their WHAC opponent to be confirmed.
