Men’s Soccer Takes a Loss on the Road versus #12 Indiana Tech

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Soccer (2-4) took the drive to take on #12 Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Ind. where they battled it out versus a top WHAC opponent. The Warriors looked to dominate possession in this match, something that the Golden Eagles are no stranger to. Cornerstone were focused on counter-attacking plays in the first half, but the offensive pressure from the Warriors was able to break through in the 36th minute of play to put Indiana Tech up 1-0 in the first half. An early second half penalty shot for the Warriors helped them to build their lead 2-0 and take the win in the end. The Golden Eagles will travel to Rochester Hills, Mich. to take on Rochester Christian University on October 1st, at 7 p.m. inside of the Michigan Stars Sports Center.

First Half:

  • The first shot of the match did not occur until the 18th minute of play, taken by Indiana Tech, forcing a save from Cornerstone's goalkeeper Roberto Gutierrez.

  • Mason Heyboer received the first booking of the match, as his foul earned himself a yellow card in the 20th minute.

  • The first goal of the game came in the 36th minute from Indiana Tech, as they slotted the ball past the goalkeeper into the back of the net.

  • The first half was defined by plenty of fouls. The Warriors tallied seven fouls in just the first half, compared to the Golden Eagles' 5.

Second Half:

  • The second half got underway almost immediately with an Indiana Tech shot that was saved by Roberto Gutierrez in the 47th minute.

  • A foul by Cornerstone in the box handed the Warriors a penalty kick opportunity that was put away by Indiana Tech, up 2-0 in the second half.

  • Isaac Wood gets a shot off on goal to force a save from the goalkeeper for Indiana Tech. The score remains 2-0.

  • Off of a corner-kick, Tyler Corstange got his head to the ball but it sailed over the crossbar.
