Davenport, Fla. – Baseball began day two of the Florida trip with a 13-5 loss to New College of Florida but secured their first win of 2026 in walk off fashion against Calumet College of Saint Joseph.
Nate Jackson led CU with four hits on the day while
Corbin Westerkamp hit a two-run homerun in game two. The Golden Eagles continue play in the RussMatt Tournament on Monday, March 2nd as they face Northwester College for a doubleheader with the first game set for 1:30 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 5 New College of Florida – 13
- New College of Florida struck first with a two-run homerun to take a 2-0 lead that would hold through the first two innings.
- The Banyans extended their lead over CU to make it 3-0 game.
- New College of Florida broke it open in the fourth growing their lead to 8-0 over the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Luke Griffith and Thomas Rupp both walked in a run followed by a single from Grant DeRose to make it an 8-3 game.
- Both teams would get runners on, but no runners would come across to score through the next two frames.
- The Golden Eagles and Banyans both added a run in the seventh which maintained the five-run lead for New College of Florida.
- New College of Florida added four runs in the top of the ninth while the Golden Eagles brought one run across but ultimately fell 13-5.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 10 Calumet College of Saint Joseph – 9
- Cornerstone started the game off going down 4-0 in the first and that score would hold until the fourth.
- The Golden Eagles erupted with eight runs in the bottom half of the fourth highlighted by a two-run homer off the bat of Corbin Westerkamp.
- The Crimson Wave responded in the fifth with five runs to take a 9-8 lead.
- Both teams were held scoreless through the next inning and a half with CU down by one going into the final frame.
- Nate Jackson singled then Bryce Smith followed with a double to put the winning run on second base.
- Drew Goodman hit a rocket to third which couldn't be handled by the third baseman and two runs come across to score as the Golden Eagles walked off the Crimson Wave.
