Melbourne, Fla. – Softball split the day with a win 8-3 over Montreat of North Carolina, and a seventh inning loss to Nelson University of Arizona. Kara Sandberg grabbed four strikeouts in the first contest to help keep the Cavaliers quiet, while Adriana Sackett kept on tallying RBIs and added three more to her season total. The second game ended in heartbreak for the Golden Eagles, despite five hits and four runs by Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles looks ahead in the Space Coast Games with another double-gameday against Bloomfield College and the University of Saint Francis on March 12, at 2:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. respectively.

Morgan Jenkins got on base thanks to being walked. Adriana Sackett singled and brought Jenkins home to score the first run of the game for the Golden Eagles.

Kara Sandberg wrapped up the bottom of the second inning with three strikeouts, but Cornerstone was kept quiet in the inning as they failed to get on base.

Another strikeout in the third inning by Kara Sandberg helped to keep Montreat quiet, while Andriana Sackett added two more RBI's to her game total as Sam Timmer and Morgan Jenkins reached home.

Two flies out by Montreat brought Cornerstone back to bat. Gabby Mecca singled to bring Dylan Holmes into home plate for an RBI. Morgan Jenkins stole third and scored to make it 6-0 for Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles completed the inning with Gabby Mecca and Sam Timmer scoring to keep Cornerstone going 8-0.

Addi Herbig got a strikeout but not before Montreat was able to get three runs on the board to make it 8-0 at the end of the fifth inning.

Two popped up outs by Montreat combined with another strikeout by Addi Herbig finished the inning for the Cavaliers.

The Golden Eagles finished out the seventh inning with three defensive plays to tie up the win 8-3 over the Cavaliers of Montreat!
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 4 Nelson (Ariz.) – 5

Grace Paling knocked out two batters in the bottom of the second inning to keep the Warriors quiet as Cornerstone had yet to record a hit in the contest.

Alexis Ashbay singled in the top of the third that sent Kaylee Misialek home to score for the Golden Eagles 1-0. One fly out and two ground out plays finished out the third inning of play.

Kaylee Misialek grounded out to the right fielder, but Sam Timmer made it home to score the second run for Cornerstone 2-0. Two errors by Nelson University saw Cornerstone to two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. The scoring going into the fifth was 4-0 Cornerstone.

The top of the fifth inning saw Anna Griffioen triple but two unlucky outs afterwards left her on base going into the bottom of the fifth.

The Warriors fought back in the bottom of the fifth and scored four runs to tie it up 4-4 heading into inning number six.

Cornerstone was kept quiet in the top of the sixth inning, allowed only one hit, with two runners left on base. The Warriors followed it up with two hits in the bottom of the sixth but Addi Herbig closed it out with a strikeout to keep any more runs from being scored by Nelson.

With two outs on the board, the Warriors hit a double to send a runner home that closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nelson took home the win 5-4 over the Golden Eagles.
By the Numbers:
3 – Adriana Sackett brought three runners in during the first contest against Montreat with three RBIs to just one hit.
8 – Eight different Golden Eagles scored runs between the two different games. Give of which were in game one alone. Morgan Jenkins totaled three runs in the first contest while Sam Timmer totaled two runs on the day with one in either game.
5 – Five stolen bases by the Golden Eagles in game one, with two by Morgan Jenkins helped to set Cornerstone apart from the competition in the 8-3 win.
