Grand Rapids, Mich. – Baseball split the day with Lourdes falling 9-1 in game two and winning 9-7 in game two.
Michael Ruiz had two hits on the day and drove in two runs while
Mason Leckrone pitched two-innings to record his first save of the season.
Andrew Meny hit his 38th career double, breaking the school record for most all-time. The Golden Eagles face Lourdes to close out the series on Saturday, March 28th with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 1 Lourdes – 9
- Lourdes got the scoring going as back-to-back singles brought in three runs to take 3-0 lead over CU.
- The Golden Eagles responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Broedy Dunham singled to drive in Andrew Eley and cut into the Gray Wolves lead.
- LU added three more in the second on a sacrifice fly and single which drove in two extended their lead to 6-1.
- In the top of the fourth Lourdes brought to more runs across to score on back-to-back doubles to grow their lead to 8-1.
- The Gray Wolves made it an eight-run lead in the fifth as an error brought in another run to make it 9-1.
- Both teams were held scoreless through the sixth and CU went 1-2-3 in the bottom of seventh to end the game.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 9 Lourdes – 7
- After a scoreless first inning, Lourdes brought a run in to score on a ground out to take a 1-0 lead.
- Cornerstone tied the game at one in the bottom of the second as Andrew Eley hit into a fielder's choice that brought Corbin Westerkamp across to score.
- The Gray Wolves retook the lead in the top of the third scoring off two singles and a wild pitch to make it a 5-1 game.
- In the bottom of the fourth Cornerstone broke out for six runs as Drew Goodman and Andrew Meny walked, followed by a Luke Griffith single to put CU on top 7-5.
- Lourdes tied the game seven in the top of the fifth off a triple and a single.
- The Golden Eagles retook the lead in the sixth as Michael Ruiz hit a sacrifice fly that drove in John Caliendo to make it 8-7 game in favor of CU.
- Michael Ruiz drove in another run in the eighth as he hit a single that brought Chace Sorenson to score.
- After pitching a scoreless eighth, Mason Leckrone came back out on the mound to close out the game, getting a strike and a ground out before catching a line drive back at him to secure the game two win.
