Auburndale, Fla. – Baseball dropped both games today losing to Valley City State and #8 Southeastern.
Drew Goodman led CU with three hits on the day while
Nate Jackson and
Corbin Westerkamp both hit triples. The Golden Eagles continue play in the RussMatt Tournament on Tuesday, March 10th as they face John Melvin Christian and Dickinson State.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 4 Valley City State – 8
- Valley City State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first taking a 2-0 lead off back-to-back sacrifice flies.
- Cornerstone responded in the top of the second as Thomas Rupp drove in John Caliendo.
- The Vikings extended their lead in the bottom half with a single and a walk to make it a 5-1 game.
- After a quiet third, Valley City State singled in another run to grow their lead to five.
- In the fifth, the Vikings continued to bring runners across with two more singles which made it an 8-1 game.
- The Golden Eagles brought three runners into score in the eighth, with a triple from Corbin Westerkamp and a solo shot by Michael Ruiz.
- CU would load the bases in the top of the night led by a triple off the bat off Nate Jackson but could not capitalize and fell to Valley City State.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 2 Southeastern – 16
- Cornerstone got on the board first as John Caliendo drove in a run to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
- Southeastern responded in the top of the third bringing two runners in to take the lead.
- The Fire added to their lead in the fourth off a single making it a 3-1 game.
- SEU extended their lead to four in the top of the sixth off a single and a triple.
- CU cut into the lead as Nate Jackson drove in Broedy Dunham to make it a 5-2 game in favor of the Fire.
- Southeastern scored 11 runs between the seventh and eighth inning while keeping the Golden Eagles bats quiet to defeat CU in eight innings.

The Golden Eagles continue play in the RussMatt Tournament on Tuesday, March 10th as they face John Melvin Christian and Dickinson State.
