Melbourne, Fla. – Softball went 1-1 in their first day in Florida losing to Grace 2-0 and bounced back with a 20-0 win over Fisher College.
Addi Herbig and
Emily Dawson combined for a no-hitter in game two while Adrianna Sackett smashed a grand slam and drive in six runs. The Golden Eagles continue tournament play on Monday, March 9th with games against Clarke University at 2:30 p.m. and Keiser University at 4:45 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Grace – 2
- The first two innings were quiet, despite Cornerstone hitting singles off the bats of Sam Timmer and Alexis Ashbay, but they couldn't come around to score.
- The third and fourth inning saw little action with only two hits by Grace, but CU shut down their opportunities.
- Grace got on the board first with a double in the top of the 5th to take a 1-0 lead over the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone was unable to generate a response in the fifth and sixth innings sending the game to final inning down by one.
- In the top of the seventh Grace extended their lead with a walk to bring in a run making it 2-0.
- The Golden Eagles went down in order in the bottom of the frame to drop their first game in Florida 2-0.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 20 Fisher – 0
- Cornerstone began game two with Addi Herbig striking out the side in the top of the first.
- The Golden Eagles offense took off in the bottom of the inning with nine runs including four off a grand slam from Adriana Sackett.
- Fisher again went down in order in the top of the second and Cornerstone added to their lead with a sac bunt from Kaitlyn Cain that brought in a run.
- CU added seven more runs in the third off three straight singles from Addi Herbig, Kaylee Misialek and Kaitlyn Cain. Morgan Jenkins also singled in a run followed by a double off the bat of Alayna Meade to cap off the inning.
- In the bottom of the fourth Cornerstone extended their lead to 20 with a s double by Emily Dawson, another single from Kaylee Misialek and a walked by Kaitlyn Cain.
- Cornerstone would take the win via mercy rule in the fifth inning with Addi Herbig and Emily Dawson throwing a combined no-hitter.
