Grand Rapids, Mich. – Softball completed the sweep of Rochester Christian at home on Wednesday, April 1st.
Anna Griffioen had four hits on the day with three RBIs, while
Taylor Zwagerman led CU with four RBIs while recording three hits. The Golden Eagles hit the road as they will face off against Cleary in Howell, Mich. with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 14 Rochester Christian – 6
- The Warriors got the scoring started in the top of the first as a double to right center gave RCU a 1-0 lead.
- Cornerstone responded in the bottom half of the inning scoring on back-to-back errors by the Warriors, a sac fly off the bat of Taylor Zwagerman and a triple from Kaylee Misialek gave CU a 4-2 lead.
- The Golden Eagles added seven more runs in the second with doubles from Alayna Meade and Paige Liddell and singles by Dylan Holmes and Anna Griffioen made it a 11-1 game.
- RCU got three in the third of a triple, single and an error to cut into the CU lead.
- CU added one in the bottom frame with a double off the bat of Paige Liddell which scored Alayna Meade.
- Rochester Christian brought another run across on a ground out to second base in the fourth and got another in the fifth on a single to make it a 12-6 game.
- Cornerstone walked it off in the bottom of the fifth as a triple from Taylor Zwagerman made it 13-6 and Kaylee Misialek singled to bring in Zwagerman and complete the mercy of RCU.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 8 Rochester Christian – 3
- Rochester got on the board first in game two as a wild pitch brought a run across to score and give RCU a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
- Cornerstone responded in the bottom of the second off a two RBI single from Dylan Holmes to give CU a 2-1 lead.
- The Warriors tied it at two in the top of third as a run came across on a ground out to the second baseman.
- The Golden Eagles brought four across in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by a triple off the bat of Anna Griffioen and a single from Morgan Jenkins to make it a 6-2 game.
- RCU cut the lead to three in the top of the fifth as a runner came into score on a pickle.
- Cornerstone brought two runs across in the bottom frame scoring on a passed ball and a wild pitch to make it an 8-3 game in favor of CU.
- Kara Sandberg shut down the Warriors in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the sweep for Cornerstone.
