Grand Rapids, Mich. – Baseball dropped both games of the doubleheader against Cleary on Thursday.
Drew Goodman hit a two-run homer in game two while
Andrew Eley scored twice with two walks. The Golden Eagles return home to face Indiana Tech on Saturday, April 11th with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Cleary – 12
- Cleary opened the scoring in the bottom of the first scoring two runs off a single and a double take a 2-0 lead over Cornerstone.
- The Golden Eagles responded in the second as Corbin Westerkamp hit a double to left that brought Luke Griffith into score and put Cornerstone within one.
- In the bottom of the third Cleary added two more runs off a triple and a double to take a 4-1 lead.
- The Cougars continued to extend their lead as a sacrifice fly gave them a four-run lead.
- The bottom of the fifth inning saw Cleary explode for seven runs off two singles, a triple, a balk and a homerun to take a 12-1 lead.
- Cornerstone cut into the lead in the sixth off a Broedy Dunham triple and a single by John Caliendo to make it 12-3.
- The Golden Eagles went down in order in the seventh as Cornerstone dropped game one to Cleary.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Cleary – 7
- The Cougars scored three runs on zero hits in the first inning of game off two walks and a hit by pitch.
- Cornerstone got on the board in the top of the third as Andrew Eley scored on a wild pitch.
- Cleary extended their lead in the fourth hitting a single and a sac fly making it a 5-1 game.
- In the bottom of the eighth Cleary added two runs on a single and a double to take a six-run lead into the ninth.
- Drew Goodman hit a two-run homerun with one out in the ninth, but the next Golden Eagles would get out to end the game 7-3 in favor of Cleary.
