Grand Rapids, Mich. – Baseball went to work against #19 Indiana Tech as they hosted the Warriors in a doubleheader. The Golden Eagles struggled from start to finish as Indiana Tech was able to end each game in seven innings as they rolled past the home squad. Cornerstone will look to regroup as they travel to Lawrence Tech for a doubleheader on Friday, April 17
th beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 5 Indiana Tech – 18
- The Warriors opened the first inning with a flurry of hits to stun the Golden Eagles after taking a 2-0 advantage early.
- Indiana Tech continued their trend early in the 2nd inning as they earned six more runs and forced Cornerstone into an early pitching change down 8-0.
- Nate Jackson, Andrew Eley, and Drew Goodman secured three straight singles to steady the Cornerstone offense starting the bottom of the 3rd.
- Corbin Westerkamp secured a three-run shot for the Golden Eagles after a deep home run helped CU reach an 8-5 deficit.
- The top of the 5th inning belonged to Indiana Tech as they kicked the inning off with a solo shot homer.
- The Warriors earned another flurry of runs in the 5th taking a 13-5 lead after wild pitching and unsteady defense from the home squad.
- Cornerstone continued to struggle finding an answer for the Warriors at the plate as they suffered a 14-5 deficit after the top of the 6th inning.
- The story continued for Cornerstone as they were unable to hold off the Warriors as they ended game one in just seven innings taking it 18-5.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 1 Indiana Tech – 12
- Indiana Tech picked up where they left off from game one with a strong double to drive in two runs for the visiting team in the top of the 1st.
- Drew Goodman secured a sac fly to help earn Cornerstone earn an early run to keep the pace trailing 2-1.
- The Golden Eagles left a pair of base runners on in the 2nd inning as the score remained the at 2-1 in favor of Indiana Tech.
- The Warriors stormed back to the plate in the 3rd inning with an impressive five run inning to take full control of the second game.
- The 4th and 5th inning was quick outs earned for both teams as the score was stuck at 7-1 headed to the 6th.
- The bats got hot for the Warriors once again in the top of the 7th as they reached a 12-1 lead and threatened to end the game early with Cornerstone needing a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th to stay in the contest.
- The Golden Eagles could not find a way past Indiana Tech in the bottom of the 7th as they saw the game fall 12-1.
