Baseball Swept by Lawrence Tech in Road Doubleheader

Utica, Mich. – Baseball dropped the doubleheader to Lawrence Tech on Friday, April 17th. Luke Griffith and Andrew Meny led CU with two hits on the day. Mason Leckrone threw two and two thirds shutout innings in game one. The Golden Eagles head to Livonia, Mich. to face Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday, April 18th with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 4 p.m.


 
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 5 Lawrence Tech – 7
  • Lawrence Tech opened the scoring as they loaded the bases on walks as a double to right field brought two runs in to give LTU a 2-0 lead.
  • The Golden Eagles responded in the top of the second as a triple off the bat of Corbin Westerkamp brought Luke Griffith into score followed by John Caliendo hitting a grounder to score Westerkamp and tie the game at two.
  • LTU retook the lead scoring two runs off groundouts and then another on error making it a 5-2 game.
  • Cornerstone got within one as Broedy Dunham singled to shallow right field to score Thomas Rupp with Andrew Eley scoring on an error following the play.
  • In the bottom of the fourth Lawrence Tech took a 6-4 lead scoring on a steal of home and a balk.
  • Andrew Meny singled in the top of the seventh to drive in Andrew Eley, but LTU would end the game getting the next batter to ground into a fielder's choice as Cornerstone fell 7-5 in game one.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Lawrence Tech – 12
  • Both teams were held scoreless through three with Connor Comiskey not allowing a hit to the Bue Devils.
  • LTU struck first in the bottom of the fourth as a single down the right field line scored two.
  • Lawrence Tech piled on to their lead in the sixth scoring ten runs on seven hits and an error taking a 12-0 lead over CU.
  • Grant DeRose singled in the top of the seventh, but three straight outs ended the game with Cornerstone falling 12-0 in game two.

The Golden Eagles head to Livonia, Mich. to face Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday, April 18th with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 4 p.m.
