Baseball Drops the Series Against Aquinas

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Baseball dropped both makeup games against Aquinas losing the series 3-1. John Caliendo shined in game two with four hits and two runs while Connor Comiskey threw five innings with no earned runs and six strikeouts in game one. The Golden Eagles head to Howell to face Cleary on Friday, April 10th with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
 
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 2 Aquinas – 4
  • Cornerstone got on the board in the top of the first as Andrew Eley led off the game with a triple and a sac fly off the bat of Andrew Meny brought Eley into score and gave CU a 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden eagles added another in the top of the fourth as Drew Goodman scored on a double play to extend CU's lead to two. 
  • Aquinas took the lead in the fifth as a sac fly and a single brought three runs into score and gave the Saints a 3-2 lead.
  • AQ extended their lead in the bottom of sixth as a single brought a run in to make it a 4-2 game.
  • The Saints struck out CU in order in top of the seventh as Cornerstone fell in game one 4-2.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 8 Aquinas – 16
  • The Golden Eagles started the scoring in game two as Corbin Westerkamp singled to bring Broedy Dunham in to score and give CU a 1-0 lead.
  • Aquinas responded in the bottom of the third with five runs off a homerun and three singles and took a 5-1 lead.
  • Cornerstone got within one in the top of the fourth as John Caliendo scored on a wild pitch followed by a single off the bat of Drew Goodman that drove in Andrew Eley and Corbin Westerkamp.
  • The Saints broke out for seven runs in the bottom half of the frame with a steal of home, two singles and two errors to make it a 12-4 game in favor of AQ.
  • CU added a run in the fifth as Corbin Westerkamp brought Broedy Dunham around to score with a single to centerfield. 
  • AQ extended their lead with two more runs in the sixth scoring on a fielder's choice and a single.
  • Cornerstone cut into the Saints lead as Andrew Meny and Luke Griffith both walked in runs and a single by Thomas Rupp made it an 14-8 game.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Aquinas brought in two more runs to take an eight-run lead and despite a leadoff single by John Caliendo in the ninth, AQ closed out the game and CU fell in game two.

The Golden Eagles head to Howell to face Cleary on Friday, April 10th with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
