Scouting Robert Morris
The Eagles earned a 2015-16 preseason No. 18 ranking defeating Cornerstone 64-51 in the early season, but then suffered a collapse finishing the year under .500 losing six of their last eight games to finish the season at 12-16. Robert Morris is known for their rim protection, as they were fifth best in the nation last year with 4.89 blocks per game.
2015-16 Recap
The Golden Eagles are set to return to the floor after a bit of a rebuilding year in 2015-16. Cornerstone recorded a 16-14, 14-8 record last year, finishing in fifth place in the WHAC with their last game of the season being a conference tournament quarterfinal loss on the road to Indiana Tech.
Key Transfer's and Freshman
Cornerstone will see two key transfers play significant roles in the 2016-17 season, as
Cass Vredevoogd returns to her hometown to play after spending two years with Dort College and earning a GPAC honorable mention last season.
Lizzy Otten also returned to her hometown to play after transferring two years ago from Madonna. Otten redshirted during the 2015-16 season due to conference transfer rules. Vredevoogd and Otten both have junior eligibility status entering the season. CU will also see two freshman step foot on the court for the first time in guard
Ali Cutler and forward
Shaina DenBesten.
Homegrown Talent
In her fifth year as head coach of the Golden Eagles,
Katie Mattera has done an excellent job of finding homegrown talent. The 2016-17 roster will see 15 of the 16 players come from the state of Michigan with the only outside recruit being sophomore first team all-conference player
Jesse Sheridan.
Mattera's Tenure
Coach
Katie Mattera enters her fifth season at the helm of the Cornerstone Women's Basketball team. Mattera is just 21 wins away from being the third coach in CU history to achieve 100 career wins currently holding a 79-46 record as head coach.
