Last Week Recap-
The Golden Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak with a convincing 68-56 win over the Tigers of Grace Christian. Cornerstone led for the majority of the contest and outrebounded the Tigers 51-23. With the win, CU swept the season series against Grace Christian and moved to 3-17 on the year.
Cornerstone looked to carry the momentum into a tough matchup against #25 Lawrence Tech, but were unable to pull off the upset. Offense was hard to come by for the Golden Eagles, as they struggled from the field in a 73-48 loss. The defeat dropped CU to 3-18 and 1-10 in the WHAC.
Van Andel Institute Purple Games
Cornerstone will be hosting their annual VAI Purple Games to support cancer research. All proceeds for the event will go to the Van Andel Institute Purple Community. Shirts can be purchased at the game for $10. There are other ways to give including entering the Grand Rapids Griffins, West Michigan Whitecaps, or Grand Rapids Drive raffle, and donating to the pie in the face jar contest. The women's game will take place at 5:30 p.m. and the men will follow at 7:30 p.m. Each athlete will be introduced during the game with the name of someone they will be playing for who has been affected by cancer.
Scouting #14 Siena Heights University
For the second time this season, CU will face off with a talented Siena Heights Saints team. At 19-1, with an 11-0 WHAC record, the Saints have climbed all the way to #14 in the country.
Much of their success can be attributed to forward Peyton Banks. A three-time WHAC Player of the Week, Banks is averaging 17.4 points and 8.4 rebounds a contest. Her 7 double-doubles are joint highest in the WHAC, making her a tall task to stop.
Scouting UM-Dearborn
With 99 blocks as a team this season, UM-Dearborn are one of the top teams in the NAIA when it comes to rim protection. The Wolverines 99 blocks are the third most in the NAIA and will make getting to the basket a challenge for the Golden Eagles.
Offensively, UM-Dearborn boasts a balanced scoring attack, with four players averaging between 11 and 13 points a contest. Guard Ro'Zhane Wells leads the Wolverines with 12.3 points a game.
