Virtual Senior Day: Lexi Lieske

#CUVirtualSeniorDay – With the cancellation of the remainder of the 2020 spring sports seasons due to COVID-19 concerns, CU Athletics will be honoring the spring seniors who will not get the opportunity to be recognized in the traditional Senior Day setting.

Lexi Lieske appeared in 107 games over the course of her Cornerstone career, accumulating a .343 batting average over that span. In the 13 games over the 2020 spring break trip, Lieske tallied a whopping 19 hits, including a walkoff RBI single over Bethel. She was a leader on and off the field, serving as a captain during her shortened senior season.

Lexi is the daughter of Erin and Matt Lieske.

Coach's Quote:
"It has been a pleasure to have Lexi Lieske in our softball program. I've known Lexi since she came to one of our softball camps as an 8 year old girl several years ago. One thing I know is that Lex is a warrior; she has had to work through some difficult things both on and off the field. She battled through physical injury early in her collegiate career, which forced a position change from catcher to outfield, where she used her great foot speed to run down fly balls. Her biggest asset to the team, though, was her bat. She led the team in many offensive categories for a lot of her career, including this year when she was batting an impressive .432 prior to the cancellation of the season. It has truly been a joy coaching Lexi. I will certainly miss her in the years to come." – Jim Farrell

Letter from Lexi:

Dear Softball,

Where do I even begin? You have been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I dedicated my life to you. The love that I have for you and the things I have learned, are endless. Every lesson, every practice, every weekend tournament, every season, taught me something different. You are so much more than every hit I've ever had, every girl I've ever thrown out, and every win. You have shown me that being a part of a team is so much better than working alone. You have provided me with so many relationships, I will be forever grateful. My parents always said, softball brings you more than teammates, it brings you family. They were so right. When I was younger, I gave every weekend and every summer to you, some people said I was crazy, but I was in love. I knew that you would continue to provide me with tremendous opportunities and chances to grow, that is why I chose to play at a higher level.

Because of you, I was brought to Cornerstone. Because of you, I met amazing people that have pushed me and supported me the past 4 years. Because of you, I am forever grateful. Without you and without the people you put in my life, I don't know what I would have done. College was hard for me, especially the first couple of years. But you gave me a coaching staff that encouraged and reminded me, that Christ is the center of my life. That pursuing God and showing people the love and joy of Christ, is so important. I had teammates that shined the light of Jesus in my life every day. Cornerstone softball has been my family for the past 4 years and I am so thankful to you for bringing them in my life and constantly reminding me that everything I do is "For Him".

I'm so thankful for family and friends that constantly have been by my side. My dad who rarely ever missed a game and always made me feel so important and so strong. I know the loss of you, is not just hitting me hard, it's breaking his heart too. I want to thank my mom, for always taking pictures and sending me motivational texts throughout the years. I truly have had an amazing support system and I'm so thankful for each and every one of my family members and friends that have cheered me on. Softball, thank you for not just impacting my life, but also for touching the lives of my sisters. I have loved watching you work in their lives and I'm so grateful that I will be able to continue to watch them grow, both physically and spiritually because of you. Although I may not still understand why it has to end this way, like Jeremiah 29:11 says, I know God has a plan. Thank you softball, for bringing me so many wonderful memories and for being a constant when I needed it most, I know you will forever be a part of my life and the journey is not over.
