GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles are set to begin the second half of the conference season with a weekend road trip to Northwestern Ohio and Indiana Tech. The weekend begins at UNOH on Friday at 7 p.m. and will be followed with a match at (RV) Indiana Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. Cornerstone swept both of these opponents at home in their first meetings in 2021, as they look to improve upon their 7-2 WHAC record which places them third in the conference right now. First Half Recap
The young Golden Eagles exceeded everyone's expectations in the first half of the conference season doing the unthinkable, sweeping every WHAC opponent they played when at full strength. The only two losses for CU, came at Lourdes and Siena Heights in the same weekend when a few players were unavailable to travel. Including non-conference games, CU has swept eight opponents this season. Head Coach
Megan Lenhart has led CU to a multitude of sweeps in her short career as the team had 15 last year, and seven 2019 her first year as head coach.
Dykema Continues to Lead the Country
Junior
Kaylee Dykema continues to be the nation's leader in blocks per set, as she sits at 1.51 through 18 matches. Dykema also ranks 13
th in the country in total blocks with 95, and ninth in the nation in block assists with 80.
Morris Surpasses 1500
Junior
Patsy Morris has now surpassed 1500 career digs after an outstanding week where she had a pair of 16 dig performances and a 23 dig performance. Morris is now at 1529 career digs, putting her 127 away from cracking the Golden Eagle top 10 all-time list.
Record vs. Ranked/RV
Cornerstone has gone an even 2-2 against NAIA Top 25 or receiving votes teams as they will play their fifth opponent to fit in that category this season when they take on receiving votes Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne. So far this year, CU swept receiving votes Madonna and defeated (24) IU-Kokomo 3-1 with both those matches being at home.
Scouting UNOH
Northwestern Ohio has not been able to get anything going in 2021, holding a 5-19, 0-10 WHAC record. The Racers have lost six of their last seven matches and are hitting just .102 as a team. The UNOH team is very young with just one senior and one junior on the roster. Freshman Logan Thomas continues to lead Northwestern Ohio with 209 kills, averaging 2.61 per set.
Scouting Indiana Tech
Despite losing their last match at Lourdes, Indiana Tech finished the first half as the best team in the WHAC, earning them a receiving votes mark in the NAIA with a record of 17-9, 9-2 WHAC. The loss to Lourdes on Wednesday evening ends an 11-game winning streak for the Warriors that saw six consecutive sweeps. Defense and serving have been where the Warriors have been most dominant, ranking 25
th in the NAIA with 1429 digs and 25
th in blocks with 168. From the service line, Indiana Tech has 143 aces to rank 44
th in the country. Defending WHAC Libero of the Year Jacey Blust leads IIT with 4.78 digs per set as she captains the roster in 2021.
