Nyboer and Richards highlight Women’s Basketball WHAC Honors

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Seniors Shelby Nyboer and Allyson Richards earned All-WHAC Second Team Honors to highlight a multitude of 2020-21 awards for Cornerstone women's basketball. The two post players are the first Golden Eagles to be selected to an All-Conference team since Jesse Sheridan and Lizzy Otten back in the 2017-18 season.

Shelby Nyboer
Nyboer returned from an early season injury to record a strong second half, averaging 12.6 PPG and 4.4 RPG in 19 games played and seven starts. She shot a career best 47.6% from the field, and recorded two double-doubles this season. Nyboer became the newest member of the Golden Eagle 1,000-point club as well this season, finishing her career with 1197 total points to rank her 17th all-time in career points at CU.

Nyboer was also recognized for her academic prowess, being named to the WHAC All-Academic Team for accumulating a GPA of 3.25+ while being a junior or senior in academic class standing.

Allyson Richards
Richards did it all for the Golden Eagles in 2020-21 leading the team with 13.4 PPG and 5.2 RPG. She also led the team in field goal percentage at 49.1 and free throw percentage at 85.5. Richards has grown exponentially with Cornerstone as 13.4 PPG is 7.9 points better than her previous season best of 5.5 a game. This season, Richards tied a single game career high with 10 points and scored in double figures in 17 total games.

Richards saw her name on two other awards in 2020-21 as well. She was named the Golden Eagle representative to the WHAC Champions of Character Team for her representations of the NAIA core character traits, as well as was honored as one of six CU players on the WHAC All-Academic Team.

Jessica Yonkers
Head Coach Jessica Yonkers made it a perfect 3-3 as the WHAC Champions of Character Coach as she has now earned the honor in each of her three seasons at Cornerstone. This award is voted on by the coaches within the conference and is given to the coach that best demonstrates the NAIA five values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

WHAC All-Academic
For the second consecutive season six Golden Eagle athletes earned WHAC All-Academic Honors for maintaining a GPA of 3.25 or higher while holding junior or senior academic class standing.

Sterling DeGayner, Katrina Goebel, Ellen Kresge, Brooke Modderman, Shelby Nyboer, and Allyson Richards all earned the award for the 2020-21 season.
