COVID-19 Fan Policy Reminder
Reminder that Cornerstone is continuing with the two fans per home athlete/coach guest policy for the time being with no visiting fans. To enter the matches, your name must be on the pass list. CU is also requiring that masks be worn at all times in the facility and are asking for families to physically distance from anyone not in their immediate family group.
Magic Number One/Schedule Update
After a couple of schedule updates where Cornerstone will not play their second match against Lawrence Tech and Rochester due to COVID-19 cancelations, the Golden Eagles magic number for a WHAC Regular Season Title is down to just one. With a win vs. Concordia, Cornerstone will win their first WHAC Regular Season Title since 2016 and their sixth in program history.
Senior Day Update
With the cancelation of the Rochester match, which was scheduled to be senior day, Cornerstone is working on potential rescheduling options. Stay tuned to cugoldeneagles.com for a replacement game or date change for that match.
WHAC Player of the Week Sweep
After a trio of sweeps last week over receiving votes Aquinas, Siena Heights, and Indiana Tech the Golden Eagles also swept the WHAC weekly honors.
Bailey Cummings was named the Attacker of the Week for the first time,
Kayla Clark was named the Setter of the Week for the fourth time, and
Patsy Morris was named the Defender of the Week for the third time.
Latest NAIA Top 25 Poll
In the most recent NAIA Top 25 Poll, Cornerstone rose up the ranks one spot with 214 votes to sit 21st in the country with a record of 17-2, 13-1 WHAC. Fellow Grand Rapids school and WHAC foe Aquinas comes in at 25th in the nation as the only other conference school to be in the poll. Cornerstone will take on the number three team in the country Indiana Wesleyan on the road to end the regular season for their last match vs. a ranked or receiving votes team this season.
Scouting Concordia
Cornerstone and Concordia have yet to meet this season as the two teams will play a home and home series over the next four days to conclude the WHAC regular season. An incredibly young Cardinal team with 12 freshman have gone 7-11, 7-8 WHAC this season, but they have been one of the scrappiest teams in the conference forcing opponents to four or five sets in 13 of the teams 18 games. Concordia ranks sixth in the WHAC as it stands and they have yet to beat anyone above them in the table so far this year. True freshman Kayla Peters is the teams offensive leader with 221 kills this season, averaging 3.16 a set.
Scouting Spring Arbor
Due to the uniqueness of this year with the COVID-19 pandemic, Spring Arbor has not played in a month with their entire conference season being played in the fall. The Cougars are 6-12, 5-8 CL and they lost in the first round of the Crossroads League Tournament to NAIA number three Indiana Wesleyan. SAU has just two seniors on the roster and they are led by junior middle hitter Kyara Black and her team best 48 blocks. Offensively, four players have over 100 kills, led by junior Alison Ford at 148.
