GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Golden Eagles end the regular season with five straight at home over the next two weeks, starting with UM-Dearborn and Northwestern Ohio this week. Cornerstone will begin the week vs. UM-Dearborn on Wednesday, February 9 at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed with their second game vs. UNOH this week on Saturday, February 12 at 1 p.m. To watch this week's action visit the link HERE. A reminder to all fans that Cornerstone is requiring masks in all indoor facilities and are asking fans to please comply with the policy.

Last Week Recap

The Golden Eagles had an unconventional week last week postponing Wednesday's home contest against Lawrence Tech due to a winter storm and traveling to Rochester and UNOH on Saturday and Monday. CU went 1-1 in those contests with a 12-point loss at Rochester and a 14-point win at UNOH. CU is now 4-19, 2-13 WHAC with five regular season games remaining all at home.

Season High's

The Golden Eagles shot the best they have all year at UNOH, going 21-44 for a 47.7% clip. CU also hit 10 threes in both contests this week, which is a season high as well. In the last two times Cornerstone has played at the Racer Gymnasium, the team has hit 27 three's with a program record 17 happening last year.

Kennedy Helderop Career High

Redshirt-sophomore Kennedy Helderop is often known for her ability to pass the ball and be a game manager, but on Saturday afternoon she dropped a career high 21-points to keep CU in the game at Rochester. She hit four of her seven threes and went 6-11 from the field in just 26 minutes played for her first ever 20-point game.

Home Stretch

Cornerstone ends the year with a season long five game home stretch that originally was only supposed to be four games long but with the LTU reschedule has moved to five. To make the WHAC Tournament, CU needs to win four of their last five and see Madonna lose four of their last five to earn the eight seed.

Scouting UM-Dearborn

Cornerstone and UM-Dearborn met back on January 12 and the Golden Eagles fell by two points to the Wolverines. UMD had a year off due to COVID-19 last year, but have bounced back nicely with a 9-15, 7-9 WHAC record to sit seventh in the conference with five games remaining. The Wolverines have won their last three contests including an upset of Siena Heights on the road by a score of 69-57. Offensively, the Wolverines are very balanced with five players scoring more than eight points per game, led by Mariah Taylor the senior guard at 11.5 a game. One area the Wolverines have struggled significantly in this season is shooting the three as they rank 172nd in the NAIA at 27.2$

Scouting Northwestern Ohio

With the COVID-19 reschedule, Cornerstone will play UNOH for the second time in the week, this time at home inside Mol Arena. The Racers have struggled all year as they sit 12th in the WHAC at 3-17, 1-14 conference and they have lost 10 straight games. Northwestern Ohio plays at one of the slowest paces in the NAIA, looking to use all of the shot clock on every possession and limit opponents offensive possessions. Unfortunately this season, UNOH has not had any offensive production of their own averaging an NAIA fifth worst 47.1 PPG. UNOH last scored over 60 points on December 8 against Miami-Hamilton, which also served as their last win, 71-48.
