Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Basketball sat at eighth in the WHAC as they entered into their next game against the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The Wolverines sat second to the bottom of the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference with a conference record of 2-16. The last matchup between these two sides saw Cornerstone take the win 66-53 over UM-Dearborn.
The Golden Eagles went 3-6 from the three point line in the first quarter as they managed to hold a lead over the Wolverines at the end of the first 10 minutes 23-16. Cornerstone grabbed 12 rebounds in the second quarter and held a 13-point lead going into halftime 37-24. For a second quarter in a row, Cornerstone shot 45.5% from the field, as they built their lead even further 56-35. The Golden Eagles would complete the win over the Wolverines 76-55, as they shot 60% from the field in the final quarter of play.
Women's Basketball have only three games left in the regular season, as they head to Lima, Ohio. There they will take on the Racers of UNOH on Saturday, February 14 at 1 p.m.

First Quarter

The Wolverines hit the first three of the night to open up the scoring 3-0.

Laura Innerebner was the first Golden Eagles to make a bucket so stay within one point of UM-Dearborn 3-2.

A mid-ranged jumper by Jaxi Long fell through that kept the contest close in the first quarter. The Wolverines led 8-6.

The first lead of the game for Cornerstone came from a three pointer made by Abby Hall to put the Golden Eagles up by one point 15-14.

Another three pointer fell for Abby Hall with 15 seconds left in the period as Cornerstone finished out the quarter on top 23-16.

Second Quarter

Three minutes were played in the second quarter before any Cornerstone points made their way to the board. Jaxi Long hit a jumper to keep the Golden Eagles ahead 25-19.

A contested three pointer by Abby Hall found its way through for Cornerstone with about five minutes left to go, Cornerstone remained on top 28-19.

Jaxi Long opened up the space for another mid-ranged jumper, which made it a 10-point lead for Cornerstone 34-24.

Some good teamwork by the Golden Eagles gave Gracie Gortmaker the lane for a free layup with under 30 seconds to go in the half.

Cornerstone would finish out the quarter with free throws from Jaxi Long. The Golden Eagles held the lead 37-24 going into the locker room.

Third Quarter

Jaxi Long hit another mid-ranged jumper to begin the third period of play. Cornerstone remained on top 39-24.

Gracie Gortmaker hit a free throw then followed it up with a steal and a layup to extend the Cornerstone lead to 16 points 42-26.

Two free throws by Gracie Gortmaker broke her into double-digits as the Golden Eagles remained in the lead 46-29 with under five to play.

The Golden Eagles saw Julie Ashbaugh hit another layup with just over a minute to play. Cornerstone remained on top with a 17-point lead 53-35.

Two more free throws by Jaxi Long saw Cornerstone to a 21-point lead at the end of the third quarter 56-35.

Fourth Quarter

UM-Dearborn opened up the final quarter with two good free throws as Cornerstone remained on top 56-37.

Julie Ashbaugh sent her defender flying as she put up another layup for her eighth point of the night. Cornerstone held a strong lead of 20 points 60-40.

A layup from Julie Ashbaugh with just about five minutes left kept the Golden Eagles flying on top by 19 points 62-43.

Abby Hall knocked down a three pointer for her 16th point of the night. Cornerstone held a lead with about four minutes left to play 67-47.

The 24-point lead came for Cornerstone as Julie Ashbaugh knocked down another. The Golden Eagles held the lead 71-47.

Kaleigh Swiger hit a big three pointer that extended Cornerstone's lead 76-53 with under a minute to play.

The Golden Eagles would complete the home victory with a final lead of 21 points 76-55 over the Wolverines.
By the Numbers
20/7 – Jaxi Long knocked down 20 points on the night versus the Wolverines with seven rebounds to round out her stellar performance.
19/6 – Just shy of 20 points, Gracie Gortmaker put away 19 points in the contest while grabbing 6 total rebounds in the Cornerstone win.
16/80% – Abby Hall knocked down 16 points as she went 4-5 from beyond the arch for an 80% three point percentage.
