Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The visiting Northwestern Ohio Racers proved to be a little too much for the host Golden Eagles on Wednesday night as CU fell in four sets. The Racers and Golden Eagles split the opening two sets but UNOH took the final two 25-18, 26-24 to win their seventh straight WHAC match. The loss drops Cornerstone to 14-6 overall and 5-4 in league play as they will face UM-Dearborn on Friday on the road.

Ellie Van Laar (FR/Hudsonville, Mich.) led the attack for CU as the freshman posted 10 kills while Megan Newhouse (JR/Grand Haven, Mich.) chipped in with eight and Cailie Schultz (SR/Rockford, Mich.) seven. Chelsea Lake (JR/Lake Odessa, Mich.) led the Golden Eagles with 15 assists while Amber Carmean (JR/Fruitport, Mich.) finished with a team high 27 digs.
The Racers stormed back in the first set after trailing 4-0 and built large leads throughout eventually closing out CU 25-20 but the Golden Eagles played flawless in the second by posting their best hitting percentage in a single set to win 25-17.
The all-important third set was controlled by the Racers other than a late rally by CU that was eventually won 25-18 giving the visitors a 2-1 lead in the match. The fourth was a back and forth affair and CU crawled back from a late deficit to take a 23-22 lead but UNOH scored four of the final five points for the 26-24 win.
The Racers hit .116 as a team compared to just .081 from the host Golden Eagles and UNOH posted 13.0 team blocks in the victory.
CU will return to action on Friday when they travel to UM-Dearborn for a 7 p.m. match against the Wolverines.
