Last Time Out

In their first home game in 84 days, the Golden Eagles fell short in a hard-fought contest against Spring Arbor on Saturday, falling 62-59. Shelby Nyboer’s 17 points pushed her pass 1,000 career points, becoming only the 27th player in Cornerstone history to achieve that threshold. Sterling DeGayner also recorded 17 points, including five three-pointers, which matched her career high from beyond the arc. Allyson Richards' 10-point performance was her 9th double digit effort in as many games this season.

Nyboer passes 1,000 points

Senior Shelby Nyboer’s bucket with 7:02 to play in the second quarter against Spring Arbor marked her 1,000th point as a Golden Eagle. Only 27 players in program history have accumulated 1,000 career points. Nyboer scored 212 points as a freshman in 2017-18, 383 as a sophomore in 2018-19, 363 as a junior in 2019-20, and currently sits at 51 for the 2020-21 campaign. Nyboer joins three former teammates on the 1,000-point list: Jesse Sheridan (1,524), Cass Vredevoogd (1,181), and Lizzy Otten (1,001), all of whom concluded their careers in 2018.

Scouting Siena Heights

Siena Heights is led by reigning WHAC Player of the Year Peyton Banks who is averaging an impressive 24.3 points per game through four games. In their first game in more than two months, the Saints opened WHAC play with a 79-41 victory over Rochester on Saturday. The Saints spent the majority of the 2019-20 season ranked inside the NAIA Top 25 poll, reaching as high as #14 and ending the season at #18. While unranked nationally this season, Siena Heights was chosen to finish second in the WHAC behind only Indiana Tech.

Scouting Madonna

The Crusaders enter this week having only played two games, both of which in November. Madonna is scheduled to host Rochester and Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday and Friday, respectively, before traveling to Grand Rapids on Saturday to take on Cornerstone. Through two games, Megan Aho leads the team with 13.5 points per game. In the WHAC preseason poll released last fall, Madonna finished 9th, ahead of only Cornerstone.

Scouting Lawrence Tech

Senior Teryn Kline leads the team with 13 points per game. Lawrence Tech’s lineup also features Kendall Fisher, who earned NAIA Second Team All-American honors as a sophomore last year. Lawrence Tech finished in 5th place in the 2020-21 WHAC preseason poll with 66 points, just one point behind Aquinas and Concordia, who were tied for 3rd with 67 points. The Blue Devils finished the 2019-20 season with a 21-12 overall, 12-7 WHAC record.

The Blue Devils will take on Spring Arbor on Wednesday and Rochester on Saturday before traveling to Grand Rapids on Monday.
